Having the right ISP can prove challenging, especially because most ISPs have a monopoly over the regions they cover, making it difficult to find alternatives. When you do run into issues with your current ISP, whether it’s a broken connection or a router issue, your entire internet service can get shut down.

What do orange blinking lights on Xfinity routers mean?
Routers often communicate their current state with blinking LEDs. If your Xfinity router is showing a blinking orange LED, chances are the router is taking far too long to connect to the internet indicating a problem with either your internet connecting from the ISP’s end or WiFi issues on the router. Alternatively, an orange blinking light can also indicate an in-process firmware update.

How to fix this issue?
Here are six fixes you can try out.
Give the router some time
Regardless of whether your router is updating or is trying to connect to the internet, give it some time to go through the process. If you restart your router in the middle of a firmware update, that can cause problems and even brick your router due to an improperly installed firmware update. Give it about 30 minutes, give or take and check back again to see if the router has started working.
Try a wired connection
If you can’t get a WiFi connection from your router, try using ethernet to see if you have an internet connection or not. If you do, there’s a good chance that the router is just updating itself and taking some time. If you don’t get internet over ethernet as well, it can indicate an issue at your ISP’s end.
Check the cables
The next thing to do is check to see if the splitter, the incoming WAN cable and any other inbound connections to your router are intact. Regular wear and tear can damage the cable carrying WAN signals to your router causing internet issues.
If you see any damage to any inbound connections, including any cuts and breaks, reach out to your ISP for support and get them to fix the cables.

Restart the router
If it’s been far too long for the router to be updating, you should restart your router. Restarting internet devices can fix seemingly random issues that cause connectivity problems, including the Xfinity router blinking orange issue. Just turn off your router (and modem) and wait for a few minutes before turning it back on again.
Check for outages
Outages from your ISP’s end can also cause orange lights on your router. Check out the Xfinity service outage page to see if your area is experiencing issues. If you are facing issues, you can contact Xfinity to find out how long it’ll take for services to resume.

Finally, if nothing else works, you’re going to have to reach out to Xfinity support and have them either assist you remotely or send a technician over to your house to diagnose and fix the problem. There’s a good chance that the issue actually persists in your router and a replacement from the ISP would be able to fix the problem.
