Common TV peripherals such as remotes are pretty straightforward devices, and not many can go wrong with them. However, just like everything tech, they seem to run into a few issues from time to time.
In this article, we’re looking at a few fixes you can try out if your Xfinity remote stops working.ย
Troubleshooting unresponsive buttons
The most common cause for this is low or dead batteries. If the status LED on your remote flashes red five times on any keypress, this is an indicator that the batteries are very low and need replacing. If the LED doesn’t flash or light up at all, chances are either your batteries are completely dead or there’s some hardware issue with the remote.
Either way, try replacing the batteries in your remote with the required substitutes and your remote should be back up and running again.

Factory reset the remote
If you’ve got new batteries in your remote and it’s still unresponsive, factory resetting the remote can help. There are two different versions of Xfinity remotes, and hence, two separate ways you can do this. Note that factory resetting your remote will unpair it with your TV, and you’re going to have to do the pairing process again.

Paired remotes with multiple TV boxes
Once you pair an Xfinity remote to a TV box, the paired remote will only respond to that specific TV. If you’ve got multiple paired remotes with different TV boxes, make sure you’re using the right remote corresponding to the paired TV boxes.ย
If all else fails, you can contact Xfinity support directly.
