Amazon Fire Stick black screen: 13 Fixes

The Fire TV Stick from Amazon is a brilliant little device that lets you stream content from your favourite platforms on just about any display that has an HDMI port, whether that’s a TV or your PC’s monitor.

In this article, we’re taking a look at how to fix the Fire Stick’s black screen.

Power cycle your router

Restarting your router can fix a bunch of seemingly random issues with your network, which could, in turn, be causing problems with Steam. If you don’t have internet connectivity or an active connection, you will get such issues on Steam.

So try restarting your router to rule out any network issues that may be causing problems.

Check Amazon Servers

There’s a possibility that the black screen you’re seeing could be because of an issue with Amazon’s servers. Check to see if there are any updates about the servers being down and if there are, all you can do is wait.

Use the original accessories

Your Firestick comes with a USB cable and power adaptor. While, in theory, it should work with any USB cable and power adaptor that supplies the required voltage, using the original accessories is always a good idea because you never know when what goes wrong.

Replace the USB cable

On the contrary, the original USB cable that came with the product might be broken, and it’s time you consider replacing it with another, similar quality one. Try swapping cables to see if that solves your problem.

Replace the adaptor

Similarly, the power adaptor can also be facing issues. Try swapping it with phone chargers or any other 5v power adaptors lying around to see if that works.

Remove any HDMI devices

Remove any other HDMI devices that may be connected to your display. On TVs with lower power output, having simultaneous HDMI connections can cause interference which in turn can cause the black screen error.

Check the input source

TV’s with multiple HDMI inputs can decide between input sources. Check to ensure you’ve got the right input source active in your TV corresponding to the HDMI port your Fire TV Stick is plugged into.

Try a different HDMI port

There’s also a possibility that the HDMI port you’re using on your TV is broken. Try switching to a different HDMI port and changing the corresponding input source to see if that solves your problem.

Check TV Compatibility

In theory, any display with an HDMI port should run the Fire TV Stick just fine, but if you’re using an older display with something like a VGA to HDMI converter, chances are your TV isn’t compatible with the device.

Check for updates

Outdated or buggy software can also cause issues with the Firestick remote. Check if you’ve got any updates and install them to see if that resolves the error.

Reset the Fire TV stick

If nothing else works, resetting the Fire TV stick as a last resort might work in your case. Do keep in mind that this will delete any settings or configurations you might’ve saved on your device.

Overheating

Although this is a rare one, it can happen to you if you’ve been streaming non-stop for longer durations. If your Fire TV Stick is extremely hot to the touch, wait for it to cool down for several hours and then try again,
