Many players of Baldur’s Gate 3 are facing an issue where they can’t proceed with the game’s venture-forth feature. This problem occurs right at the beginning of the game when you’re creating your character. You have the freedom to customise your character’s appearance and features, including your Guardian. However, the trouble arises when you try to start your adventure by clicking on venture forth.
At this point, the game unexpectedly closes, and even attempting to create different characters doesn’t resolve the problem. But the good news is that there’s a straightforward solution available to help you get back into the game.

Methods to fix the issue
Here are a few ways to help you fix the issue:
Use body type 1 or 2
The reason you’re unable to embark on your adventure and start playing in Baldur’s Gate 3 is related to your choice of your Guardian’s body type, specifically if you selected body type 3 or 4. To resolve this issue, opt for body type 1 or 2 for your Guardian. Here are the steps to create a guardian without getting any issues:
- When creating your character, you have the option to choose between the pre-made Origin characters or crafting a custom character. Be sure to avoid respecting the origin companions.
- For a custom character, select their class, customise their appearance, and pick their abilities.
- Don’t forget to give your character a name. Some players have reported encountering the error when they left the name field empty. The game should automatically assign the name Tav if you don’t choose one.
- Once your character is fully prepared, proceed to customise your Guardian.
- You have the freedom to select any race and body type for your Guardian, except for types 3 and 4. The error seems to occur specifically when you make your Guardian a Tiefling with Body 3.
- After making these adjustments, click on the Venture Forth button, and your game should now work as expected.

Disable Mods
Certain mods may be conflicting with specific game files, leading to this problem. Deactivate them and check if you can now venture forth in BG3. If it works, it means that a mod was causing the problem. Consider completely removing that mod.
Verify game files
Occasionally, issues like this can occur due to corrupted game files. To address this, verify the integrity of the game files. Here are the steps to verify the integrity of game files:
Step 1: Open the Steam and click on the Library tab. In the library, right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3, then click on the Properties option in the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Find the Local Files and click Verify Integrity of Game Files.

It will re-install the corrupted or missing files and ultimately fix the issue caused by those files.
