How to change icon sizes in Windows 10?

Windows 10 is a rather versatile operating system for just about anyone to use. However, Microsoft has spent decades in development, and Windows in its current state is an amalgamation of the learnings from all the previous iterations.

However, as monitors get more and more high resolution, icon and text sizes are rapidly getting smaller to the point where they might be too small to look at comfortably for some.

In this article, we’re taking a look at how to change icon sizes in Windows 10.

Changing icon sizes

There are three distinct areas in Windows where you’ll be working with icons.

  • The Desktop
  • The Taskbar
  • File Explorer

We’re going to look over all three of these.

Changing desktop icon sizes

Changing desktop icon sizes is a rather simple task. All you have to do is right-click anywhere on the desktop, head over to the View sub-menu and select any three of the preset icon sizes.

If that’s not cutting it for you, you can also size the icons to your liking by holding down the Ctrl key and using the scroll wheel to either enlarge the icons or make them smaller.

Resizing taskbar icons

Taskbar icons are rather easy to resize, except you don’t get as much control over the icon sizes as you would on the desktop or in the File Explorer.

Step 1: Right-click the taskbar and click Taskbar settings.

Step 2: Enable or disable the Use small taskbar icons toggle according to your preference.

Resizing File Explorer icons

The File Explorer icon sizes work in a very similar way to the desktop icon sizes. Here’s how to resize them.

Open the File Explorer and right-click anywhere. Then, head over to the View submenu and select any size of your preference. You can also achieve the same thing using the View menu in the top ribbon.

Alternatively, if the preset sizes don’t cut for you, you can again hold down the Ctrl key and use the scroll wheel to either enlarge the icons or make them smaller.
