How to change the default ringtone on the iPhone?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone and follow the steps below to change the ringtone.
- Tap on Sounds & Haptics.
- Under Sounds and Vibration Patterns, tap on Ringtone.
- Under Ringtones, tap on the tone to hear the sound. A small tick mark will appear next to it, indicating that the ringtone is currently selected.
- Tap on Back on the top-left corner of the screen. This will set the new ringtone you have selected.
Similarly, navigating through Sounds and Vibration Patterns, you can also change default alert tones for text, new voicemail, calendar alerts, reminder alerts, AirDrop according to your liking.

How to set ringtone or text tone to a contact?
When you change a default ringtone, the new ringtone is set for all phone calls. Apple also allows you to set a particular ringtone or text tone to your favourite contact to know when they’re calling without looking at your iPhone’s screen.
Open the Contacts app on your iPhone and follow the steps below.
- Tap on the person’s name for whom you want to set the ringtone.
- Tap on Edit, located on the top-right corner of your screen.
- Scroll down and tap on Ringtone or Text Tone, in case you want to assign another tone that rings when they send you a text message.
- Scroll down to see the list of in-built ringtones or alert tone and. tap on the tone to hear the sound. A small tick mark will appear next to it, indicating that the ringtone is currently selected.
- Tap on Done option at the top-right of the screen.
- Tap on Done again on the contact card to save changes.

How to buy ringtones from the iTunes Store?
You can also buy ringtones from the iTunes Store app and set it as ringtone or text alert. Go to the Settings app and follow the steps mentioned below to buy ringtones from iTunes.
- Tap on Sounds & Haptics.
- Under Sounds and Vibration Patterns, tap on Ringtone.
- Tap on Tone Store. which will take you to the tones section of the iTunes Store.
- Select the one you wish to download.
- You can hear it by tapping on the name of the song or tone.
- Then tap on the Price mentioned on the right side of the screen.
- A pop-window will appear. Confirm one of the actions from the following options: Set as Default Ringtone, Set as Default Text Tone, Assign to a Contact or Done.
- Tap on Purchase on the screen that appears at the bottom.
- Provide your Apple ID password and tap on Sign In.
The ringtone will now be purchased and you’ll be able to select it and use it as a ringtone for everyone or for a particular contact by following the respective guides above.

How to re-download ringtones purchased with you Apple ID?
If you have somehow deleted the purchased ringtone from your iPhone, Apple allows you to re-download purchased ringtones. Go to the Settings app and follow the steps mentioned below.
- Tap on Sounds & Haptics.
- Under Sounds and Vibration Patterns, tap on Ringtone.
- Tap on the Download All Purchased Tones option.
- You will not see this option if you have already downloaded all the purchased ringtones or if you have not purchased any ringtone from the iTunes Store.
