Gamers love customisations and being one of the most popular game digital gaming distribution platform as well as community, customising your profile is a must and one of the must-have customisations on Steam is the profile background.

In this article, we’ll explain how to change your Steam profile background on the app for PC as well as the smartphone. And if you haven’t purchased a profile background yet, both the guides are also followed by guides to open the Steam Points Shop to purchase a profile background.

How to change the Steam profile background on PC?

Open your Steam client on PC and follow the steps mentioned below to change your Steam account country, which appears on your Steam profile.

Step 1: Click on your current username from the toolbar options at the top and then select Profile from the dropdown menu list. Now on your Profile page, click on the Edit Profile button.

Step 2: On the Edit Profile page, click on Profile Background from the options on the side panel to the left.

Step 3: On the next page, scroll down and select the profile background you want on your Steam profile and click on the Save button.

If you haven’t purchased any Steam profile backgrounds, you can do so via the Steam Points shop, which can be accessed via the Edit Profile page mentioned above. For the exact steps, check out our guide below.

How to buy profile background via Steam Points shop on PC?

On the Edit Profile page of Steam for PC (refer to the Step 1 above to get there) follow the steps below to open the Steam Points shop and buy a new profile background.

Step 1: Click on Steam Points Shop, located at the bottom of the options to the left.

Step 2: On the shop page, click on Backgrounds from the options on the side panel to the left. You’ll can now choose either an animated or still profile background as well as mini animated backgrounds that appear when someone else hovers over your profile.

Step 3: Click on the profile background that you want to purchase from the Steam Points Store and then click on the Points button at the bottom of the pop-up box. For example, the background we’ve selected costs 2000 Steam points.

You can also change the profile background directly on the purchase confirmation page by click on the Equip button at the bottom.

How to change Steam profile background in the app?

Open the Steam app on your smartphone and follow the steps mentioned below to change your profile background.

Tap on the triple horizontal bar (hamburger) menu icon at the top-left of the app.
From the options that appear on the left sidebar, click on your current Steam account name at the top.
On the next page, tap on Edit Profile button.
Then tap on the Profile Background option.
Then scroll to the bottom and tap on the profile background you want apply on your Steam profile.
Then tap on the Save button at the bottom of the page.

How to to buy profile background via Steam Points shop in the app?

Swipe right on the profile options panel on the Edit Profile page of the Steam app and tap on the Steam Points Shop link to the extreme right.
On the next page, swipe on the options at the top to get to the right again and tap on the Backgrounds option.
As mentioned above, you can choose either animated or still profile background as well as mini animated background here.
Select the profile background you want and on the confirmation page, tap on the Points button at the bottom. For example, the background we’ve selected costs 2000 Steam points.
