Multiplayer games are a great way to spend time with friends or just dive into your fantasy world of choice. However, as immersive as they might be, they don’t always work as intended and depending on the game you’re playing, that can be a rather frustrating experience.

In this article, we’re talking about constant connection errors that players are facing in Elden Ring, why they happen and what you can do to fix them.

What causes these connection problems?

Honestly, with something as complicated as an online game, the reason can be anything from the game servers being down to your ISP blocking port access. Regardless, some of the most popular reasons are as follows.

  • Elden Ring servers are down.
  • Connection issues on your end.
  • Incorrect DNS settings.
  • Blocked ports.
  • Corrupt or outdated network drivers.

13 ways to fix the ‘constant connection error’ in Elden Ring

Here are 13 fixes you can try to fix your constant connection errors in Elden Ring.

Restart your router

Restarting your router can help eliminate any unseen network or connectivity issues you may face. You have to turn off your router, wait a bit, and then turn it back on again.

Try ethernet

As convenient as it might be, WiFi can sometimes be unstable, especially when playing online games. Try using a wired connection between your router and PC or console to see if that solves the constant connection error in Elden Rings.

Disabling any proxies or VPNs that you might be using

Another relatively common reason people run into this issue is when they’re trying to connect to a host through a proxy or a VPN connection, and the host keeps on denying the connection request.

Several high-profile sites, including video games, often block connections coming over VPN to ensure a consistent gameplay experience. In such cases, the solution is pretty straightforward. You disable your proxy or VPN client and try connecting to the host again.

Open the required ports

Many games use specific ports to securely communicate with their respective servers. If these ports are blocked on your router, you won’t be able to play online. You need the following ports open to play Elden Ring online properly.

  • UDP: 27015, 27031, 27032, 27033, 27034, 27035, 27036.
  • TCP: 27015, 27036.

Since every router configuration is different, you’ll have to figure out your router settings on your own. We recommend checking the manual or visiting the router manufacturer’s site for instructions on opening ports on your particular router.

Change your DNS settings

Using a different DNS can also help avoid connection errors. There are multiple free DNS providers using whom you can fix this issue. In this example, we’re going to use Google’s DNS.

If the above command doesn’t help, try entering these commands in the Command Prompt one at a time.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

If you suspect an issue with your router’s DHCP assignment, use these commands to release your old IP and request a new one.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

If this doesn’t work, use the following commands to reset your network stack.

ipconfig/flushdns
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int ip reset C:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset

Disable voice chat

Although the real reason behind this isn’t exactly known, some players have reported that the in-game voice chat function was causing the constant connection error.

Head to the game settings and disable voice chat under the Network tab. Keep in mind that this setting is only accessible when you’re in-game and connected online.

Run Steam as an administrator

Running Steam with administrator privileges can help you get around any permission issues that might be hampering the platform’s functionality, especially regarding online connectivity. Try running Steam as an administrator and relaunching your game to see if that fixes the problem.

Use a password

If you’re setting up multiplayer games without passwords, try using one to see if that solves your error. Passwords are generally meant to protect your game against uninvited players, but in this case, they can force a connection to the server, solving your connection problems.

Use another character

As weird as it sounds, sometimes switching characters can help resolve connection issues. This is a rather unfortunate solution as you’ll lose all progress on your current character, and any upgrade or build might cause the connection problems to come back again.

If you’re going to do this, we recommend using the Respec feature in the game, enabled after defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. The feature lets you reset all your stats and start afresh. However, if you’re frustrated by Elden Rings’ constant connection issues, this fix is worth a shot.

Reset the summoning system

Elden Rings has an in-built summoning system that helps players invite other players to their games. You can reset the summoning system by using the Furlcalling Finger remedy twice in a row. As soon as the gold-coloured summoning rings get disabled, try summoning your friend again to see if that works.

Contact support

If nothing else works, reach out to Bandai Namco support on their website and raise a ticket for your issue. Hopefully, someone will get back to you with more guidance on fixing the problem.
