How to deactivate or delete your LOL account?

League of Legends, also popularly known as LOL (often confused with the slang by non-gamers), is one of the most popular RPGs worldwide with millions of summoners competing to be the best all-year-round and the best teams competing in regional, national and international competitions culminating to world championship, which has an audience that’s bigger than most of the sports championships worldwide, barring a few like football and cricket.

The kind of viewership and participation LOL enjoys is a testament to the gripping nature of the game, and if you think you’re getting addicted to it, you might just be right. While gaming is cool, excess of anything is harmful. It’s always a good idea to take a breather from your daily activities — be it gaming — and towards that end, LOL has an option for summoner’s to deactivate their account.

However, if you feel like you’re (or someone you know is) devoting more time than you should to Riot Games’ brainchild, it’s also a good idea to get rid of your account permanently. Here is a simple guide to help you deactivate or delete your LOL account in a few easy steps.

Note: If you’re looking to request your data from Riot, do so before you delete your LOL account.

How to delete your LOL account?

Top 25 League of Legends wallpapers in HD, 4K and 8KIf you wish to delete your League of Legends account, first sign-in to your account on the game’s website and click here to submit a ticket to Riot support, then from the options, select Account management, data requests, or deletion and then add the following information to your ticket.

  • Account name
  • Summoner name
  • Server (E.g. EU West, North America)
  • Email address used to register the account
  • The location from where you registered the account (city, country)
  • If you’ve purchased RP on the account, also list the payment methods used to buy the RP.

If you’re unable to provide all of the information listed above, Riot games might ask you for additional information to ensure the security of your account, and it indeed is being closed by the owner.

Note: If asked, put down the ticket subject as “Account Deletion”.

The deletion process will begin 30 days after Riot receives the request. During this time, the account will be inaccessible, and once the process is started, it won’t be possible to recover the account. However, if you change your mind soon after submitting the deletion ticket, respond to the ticket as quickly as possible. Failure to cancel the deletion five days before the process begins will result in your losing your account and all of its data.

Approximately 30 days after the account has been successfully deleted, your summoner name and also your username (if it doesn’t overlap with a similar username from other regions) will be available to be used again.

Before deactivating, it’s recommended that you delete any payment information that might be saved in your account.

Note: If asked, put down the ticket subject as “Ticket Deactivation”.

Once the account is deactivated, no one will be able to log into the account, but the information and data on the account will stay untouched. You can reactivate your account at any time by merely requesting via a ticket. Note that deactivating your account will not prevent your ranking from decaying.

Deactivating restricts access to the account and is useful if you’re a parent trying to get your kid away from the game without harming their scores and stats. Otherwise, you might as well leave the account without logging into it — Riot doesn’t delete or otherwise alter inactive accounts.
