How to fix ‘Discord notifications not working’ error?

Discord is one of the most popular VoIP platforms on the planet. It was originally launched as a chat application for gamers but since then has evolved to serve a much wider audience.

Restart everything

Restart the Discord app, your device and your networking equipment. Restarting devices can fix a bunch of seemingly random issues, including notification issues with Discord. 


Check your internet connection

Discord requires an active internet connection to work. If you have an unstable internet connection, chances are you’re going to miss out on notifications. Suppose you’re on WiFi check to see if you’ve got internet access and strong signals. If you’re on mobile data, check to see if data is enabled and that you’ve got good network coverage.


Change your Discord status

Your Discord status also controls whether or not you get notifications from the app. If you’re offline or on Do Not Disturb. You’ll not see any notifications. Make sure to set your status online. To do so, click on your profile picture in the bottom left and change the status to online.

Update the app

If there’s a bug in Discord, chances are the developers have looked into it and already released a patch. Try looking for updates on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, depending upon what device you’re using. If you’re on a PC or Mac, check the app for any updates. 


Reinstall Discord

If updating the app didn’t fix the issue, try removing Discord from your phone or PC and reinstalling it again from scratch. This can help eliminate any corrupt files or data that might be restricting the app’s functioning.

Check your devices

Discord avoids sending notifications to your phone if you’re active on your PC. If you’ve got both the devices around and are using Discord on either of them, you won’t get notifications on the other. 

There’s an inactive timer in the Discord notification settings on the PC app that you can use to modify this behaviour.

Step 1: Open the Apple menu and click on System Preferences.

Check Discord notification settings

If your phone settings allow Discord to send notifications through, go ahead and check Discord’s in-app notification settings. 

On the Discord app
