Discord screen share no audio: Quick Fix

  • by

Discord is one of the most popular VoIP platforms at the moment. The program started as a communications app for gamers but has evolved into a platform for anyone who wants to hang out with their friends.

While the team behind Discord has put a lot of effort into making the program flawless, there are still occasional bugs and glitches. In this article, we’re talking about getting no audio when sharing screens on Discord and how you can fix the issue.

Why does the ‘Discord screen share no audio’ issue happen?

There are several reasons why you might not get any audio when sharing your screen. You could be facing bad audio drivers, lack of administrator access to Discord or just some program bugs the development team hasn’t worked out yet.

How to fix this?

Here are a few solutions you can try out to fix the issue.

Restart your PC

Restarting your PC to fix problems that appear out of nowhere isn’t something new. It’s one of the easiest solutions to most seemingly random problems. Reboot your machine and try running Discord again. That should resolve your issue.

Run Discord as administrator

Since Discord uses UDP to communicate with its servers, there’s a chance that inappropriate permissions are getting in its way. Try running Discord with administrator privileges to check if that resolves your issue.

Right-click on the Discord icon either on the desktop or the start menu and choose the Run as Administrator option.

Check Discord servers

Another possible reason for this could be a problem at Discord’s end. However, the program is used by millions worldwide, and servers are under constant load, so a failure here and there isn’t that surprising. You can use this link to check the online status of various Discord systems.

Avoid full screen mode

This is a one-off bug that affects a few users across the program’s userbase. If you’re showing an application or game in the full-screen mode, chances are your audio might not go through.

The solution to this? Run whatever program or game it is in windowed mode, and you should hear the audio output just fine in the stream.

Add the activity

Usually, Discord automatically detects the program or game you’re running on your PC. However, failure to do so can lead to issues while sharing your screen with others, including no audio. Here’s how to fix this.

Step 1: Head over to Discord (make sure your game or program is already running) and click on the settings gear icon next to your username.
