How to fix ‘DXGI_error_device_hung’?

Apex Legends is a popular first-person shooter game in the battle royale genre that’s risen to one of the top spots. However, as popular as the game might be, just like everything tech, it still isn’t immune to random bugs and glitches that can really hamper the user experience.

In this article, we’re looking at the “DXGI_error_device_hung” in Apex Legends, including its causes and what you can do to solve the problem.

What causes this error?

The ‘DXGI_error_device_hung’ usually shows up for Nvidia GPU users and has been linked to a driver issue. More often than not, the root cause of the issue is a problem in communication between the game and the hardware GPU interface. 


How to fix this?

Here are three ways you can fix the ‘DXGI_error_device_hung’.

Update your graphics drivers

Updating your GPU drivers can help get the game up and running.

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run prompt. Type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

Step 2: Scroll down to find Display adaptors — double click it to expand and see all your graphics cards.

Step 3: Right-click on your graphics cards and select Update driver.

Step 4: Select Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will automatically download and install any updates that are available.

Restart your PC, and Apex Legends should work fine now. 


Rollback drivers

You can also opt to roll back to a previous version of the driver working fine for you. Here’s how.

Step 1: Press Windows key + R, type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

Step 2: Double-click the GPU driver to open its properties.

Step 3: Under the Drivers tab, click Roll Back Driver. If the option is greyed out for you, the driver can’t be reverted to an older version or is already on the oldest version.

Restart your computer and try using it with the older driver. It should resolve the ‘DXGI_error_device_hung’.
