How to get a student discount on YouTube Music?

Youtube is perhaps the most common online platform for video streaming, owing to its vast trove of quality user-generated content. However, it’s quickly catching up on things like game streaming and, you guessed it, music.

Youtube Music has had quite a successful run since its launch and for a good reason. The music selection is more extensive than most streaming services, and you get pretty good access across desktops and phones.

The pricing isn’t bad, either. Plans start at INR 99 a month and there a bunch of quite flexible options. Of course, all of of them come with a 30-day free trial. However, should you want to drop that price tag even lower you can apply for a student discount and here we explain how you can do that in seven simple steps.

How to apply for a Student Discount?

Step 1: Go to Youtube Music’s website. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the student discount link.

Step 2: You’ll be presented with more information about the Student plan alongwith the INR 59 per month price tag. Click on the Try It Free button.

Step 3: A prompt will show up telling you that you’ll be directed to SheerID to verify your student status. Click Continue.

Step 4: You’ll be taken to a form where you’ll have to enter your College name, legal first and last name. Then click on the Next button.

Step 5: Now, you’ll be asked for some additional information. I simply uploaded my college ID card, but you can upload your college transcript or any other school-issued document that proves you’re a student. Then click on the Submit button.

Step 6: You’ll see a page confirming your submission. If everything goes fine, you should get your student discount in a couple of hours. But it can take a little bit more time as well (up to 48 hours as claimed by Youtube)

Step 7: You’ll receive an email (refer to the screenshot below). Click on the Finish Sign-Up link, and you’re done.

Have fun grooving to your favourite tunes for half the price!
