Google Maps no sound: 9 Fixes

Google Maps is one of the most popular navigation apps around right now. Its popularity is the overall reliability and usability that the app offers.

However, just like everything else tech, Google Maps can also run into the occasional bugs and glitches simultaneously. In this article, we’re taking a look at the no sound error in Google Maps.

Check your media volume

The first thing you should do is ensure your media volume isn’t muted. If you’re navigating, it’s usually a good idea to turn the volume all the way up so that you can better hear what directions the app is giving.

Another thing to keep in mind for Android users is that your media volume is different from your ringer volume, so don’t assume that just because you can hear your phone ring, it means that you’ll be able to listen to Maps as well.

Unmute voice navigation

Google Maps has three different voice navigation modes — silent, important and all directions. Ensure you’re not in silent mode if you’re not hearing any navigation sounds from the app.

  • After starting navigation, tap the speaker icon.
  • Ensure that it’s set to all navigations.

Check Guidance volume

Maps also has a separate guidance volume setting that you can use to increase the volume further.

  • Tap Navigation Settings.

Enable Play voice over Bluetooth

Maps has another feature that allows playing navigation sounds over Bluetooth connections. Make sure it’s enabled.

  • Enable the Play voice over Bluetooth slider.

Alternatively, you can also try enabling Play as Bluetooth phone call setting.

Reconnect Bluetooth

Disabling your phone’s Bluetooth and reconnecting it to the device you intend to listen to the navigation instructions can also help you get over the issues. Sometimes Bluetooth connections issues can cause conflicts with the Google Maps app.

Check for updates

Make sure to check your phone for updates as well. More often than not, bugs in Android are ironed out rather quickly, especially if they’re impacting an app as big as Google’s. If your phone has some updates, try installing them immediately and check if that resolved your issue.

Clear the cache

Corrupt files in the app’s cache can also cause it to misbehave. Try clearing out the app’s cache and data to resolve the issue.

  • Tap the Clear cache and Clear data buttons.

Restart your phone and try again. Alternatively, you can also force stop the app from Step 4 and start it again.

Reinstall Google Maps

Another thing you can try is to delete the Google Maps app outright and reinstall it again from the Play Store or the App Store. Reinstalling helps get rid of any corrupt or non-functional files that may be hindering the app’s functionality.

Update your phone

At times, an update to the phone software can also help get rid of network-related issues. If there’s a bug in the OS or an issue with the current software version installed on your phone, updating it can eliminate any such issues at once.
