Does Hobby Lobby accept Apple Pay?

No, Hobby Lobby does not accept Apple Pay. While the company regularly updates its payment methods to provide customers with convenience and flexibility, Apple Pay has not been integrated into its payment systems.

While some may be surprised by this, it’s important to note that Hobby Lobby’s approach to technology is unique. Hobby Lobby is known for its conservative values and preference for traditional methods of payment, which may be why they’ve been resistant to newer payment methods such as Apple Pay.

Why Hobby Lobby does not accept Apple Pay?

Here are a few explanations as to why Hobby Lobby hasn’t yet incorporated Apple Pay into its payment options:

  • They already use PayPal: Hobby Lobby doesn’t currently offer Apple Pay partly because it already provides PayPal as a payment method for online purchases. While PayPal isn’t accepted in-store unless you have a PayPal Cash Card, it is available for online transactions. Hobby Lobby opts for PayPal because it’s a widely recognised and trusted payment method, potentially minimising the need for Apple Pay integration.
  • Costly equipment upgrades: Implementing Apple Pay would require Hobby Lobby to upgrade their checkout points with specialised equipment to connect to the Cloud and process transactions securely. This could be a significant expense, especially if they have numerous checkout points across their stores. As a result, they may have chosen to hold off on these upgrades for now, despite the potential benefits of accommodating digital wallets.
  • Training requirements: Introducing Apple Pay would necessitate additional training for Hobby Lobby cashiers. Unlike traditional payment methods, Apple Pay requires a different approach, and cashiers would need to be familiar with its functionality to assist customers effectively. This would extend the training period for new hires and require all staff members to receive instruction, which could strain resources and manpower, particularly for stores with limited staffing.
