How to change between monitors 1 and 2?

Many users now rely on multiple monitors to enhance their productivity, whether for gaming, writing, multitasking, or creative work. However, setting up and configuring dual monitors, often called Monitor 1 and Monitor 2, might seem troublesome to those less familiar with the technical aspects.

In this article, we have discussed how to change monitors 1 and 2, the primary monitor and monitor display style.

Change the Monitor 1 and 2

If you want to change the positions of Monitor 1 and 2, then follow the steps below.

Step 1: Right-click on the Desktop, and then in the dropdown menu, click on the Display settings option.

Step 2: If you don’t know which monitor is 1 and 2, click the Identify button below the monitor numbers. The assigned monitor number will appear on each monitor.

Step 3: Click on one of the number boxes, drag them to the other side and then click on Apply button to save the settings.

Change the Primary Monitor

If you wish to change the primary monitor, then follow the steps below.

Step 1: Right-click on the Desktop, and then in the dropdown menu, click on the Display settings option.

Step 2: Click the monitor number box to make your primary monitor.

Step 3: Scroll down, and then under the Multiple Displays section, checkmark the box beside the Make this my main display.

Change the monitor display style

If you want to change the monitor display style, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Right-click on the Desktop and then click on the Display settings option in the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Scroll down and click on the Multiple Displays dropdown menu.

Step 3: Choose the desired display style from the list.

  • Select Duplicate these displays to enable the secondary monitor display to mirror the primary monitor display.
  • Select Extend these displays to expand your desktop across each monitor.
  • Select Show Only on 1 to disable monitor 2 and only use monitor 1.
  • Select Show Only on 2 to disable monitor 1 and only use monitor 2.
