How to find large files on Mac?

Method 1: Use Finder to find large files on Mac

Finder is the file manager application on Mac. By using Finder, you can find large files on Mac with ease.

Here are the steps to do so:

Step 1: Open Finder and click on the search bar in the top right. Type the search term and hit enter. Click on the + (plus) sign below the search bar.

Step 2: Click the Kind dropdown option to the left and select Other.

Step 3: Search for File Size, select the relevant option and click on OK.

For example, if you want to see the list of all files that are greater than 250 MB, then you will have to select ‘is greater than’ and then type 250. Then, choose MB. Finder will then search the Mac and display the files larger than 250 MB.

Method 2: Use Terminal

The Terminal In Mac is similar to the Command Prompt in Windows. You can use Terminal to find large files on Mac quickly.

Step 1: Open Finder and then click on Applications on the sidebar.

Step 2: Next, double-click on Utilities and then select Terminal.

Step 3: Type the following command: find / -type f -size +100M. This particular command will search all files that are larger than 100 MB. You can substitute any number instead of 100. To search files in other variables, use K for kilobytes and G for gigabytes. For example, if you want to search files above 1 GB, here’s what the command should look like: find / -type f -size +1G

Now, copy and paste the file paths to Finder and locate these files with ease. Similarly, if you want to select files from a range of file sizes, enter the following command: find . -size +100MB -size -500MB.

Method 3: Using Storage Manager

With Storage Manager, you can easily manage files. You can also use the Store Manager on Mac to find large files. You can access Storage Manager via Apple Menu > General > Storage.

After that, sort the files based on Size.
