Minecraft has several things you can do other than just hunting for resources and fighting off mobs. The game offers avenues for relaxing activities like gardening as well.

In this article, we’ll be making a garden in Minecraft and raising some crops.

What do we need?

Before we get started with a garden, you’ll need a hoe. A hoe in Minecraft, much like its real-life counterpart, is used to till the soil to make it usable for farming.

Once you have the required tool for the job, we need something to plant. You can plant the following items in Minecraft.

  • Carrots
  • Potatoes
  • Seeds
  • Beetroot Seeds
  • Melon Seeds
  • Pumpkin Seeds

Do keep in mind that seeds will harvest into wheat. All other items mentioned above will harvest into themselves. You can also use bone meal to act as a fertiliser to make your plants grow quicker.

Making a garden

We’ll be making a potato and carrot garden in the game. Follow along with these steps.

Step 1: Find a flat patch of land. We’ll be using this raised 10 x 10 grass platform in this example.

Step 2: Add water in alternating rows to ensure each block has enough water supply.

Step 3: Now, use the hoe to prepare the remaining alternating grass patches for planting the seeds.

Now all you have to do is wait for a while, and your garden should be blooming enough. Once your plants are fully grown, you can break them to harvest and then plant the seed you want again.
