How to stop WhatsApp from saving photos?

How to stop WhatsApp from downloading photos?

If you want to stop WhatsApp from downloading photos and other media on your device, then follow the steps below:

  • Open WhatsApp and tap on the Menu (triple-dot) icon at the top right corner of the screen then, in the menu, tap on Settings.
  • Tap on Storage and Data.
  • Under the Media auto-download section, uncheck photos from both options: When using mobile data and When connected on WiFi.
  • After unchecking Photos, tap on OK.

WhatsApp saves the media on your device by default, showing the images in the Photos app, but you can disable this feature. Once disabled, WhatsApp will save the images in a private folder so they won’t appear in the Photos app. Here are the steps to disable it for a specific chat or group:

  • Open the chat or group for which you want to disable the feature and tap on the Contact or Group Name.
  • Tap on Media visibility.
  • Tap on No, then tap on OK.

To stop WhatsApp from showing saved photos in the gallery for all chats, follow the steps below:

  • Open WhatsApp and tap on the Menu (triple-dot) icon at the top right corner of the screen then, in the menu, tap on Settings.
  • Tap on Chats.
  • Turn the toggle off beside Media Visibility.
