3 ways to turn off Talkback
There are three ways you can disable the feature on your Android.
Using the Talkback shortcut
The default talkback shortcut on Android phones is pressing and holding the volume keys together for three seconds. However, this shortcut is disabled by default.
If you’ve never used the talkback feature before, you’ll be prompted to enable the shortcut for the first time. After that, you can enable or disable the feature by pressing and holding the volume up and down keys for three seconds.
However, if the shortcut doesn’t work for you, you can use the following steps to enable it in the Android settings.
- Head over to your phone’s settings and select Accessibility.
- Tap Talkback.
- Under Options, enable the Talkback shortcut slider.
Using Google Assistant
Arguably the easiest way of enabling the feature, you can summon the Google Assistant by saying “Hey Google” or “OK Google” and say “Turn off Talkback” or “Turn on Talkback” to disable or enable the feature, respectively.
Using Accessibility settings
Another way of enabling or disabling the feature is via the accessibility settings on your phone. Here’s how.
- Head over to your phone’s settings and select Accessibility.
- Tap Talkback.
- Enable the Use Talkback slider.

- Head over to your phone’s settings and select Accessibility.
- Tap Talkback.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Advanced settings.
