Talking points: Our take on Huawei Mate 20 series

While the Mate 20 and Mate X are similar when it comes to design, biometrics the Huawei Mate X sports a bigger OLED screen and houses a number of features including a better camera, bigger battery, liquid cooling system, M-Pen and more.

Similarly, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 RS are similar in most of the specs but differ in design as the Huawei Mate 20 RS features an exclusive leather and glass Porsche design.

The Huawei Mate 20 is clearly the underdog in the entire lineup and doesn’t exactly justify its price. The proprietary NM cards are a drawback for all of the devices.

The Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 RS don’t have 3.5mm headphone jacks, and their USB type-C port doubles up as a headphone jack.

If you’re a gaming buff or are creatively inclined, the Huawei Mate 20 X is a better bet at just an extra €100 as compared to the higher spec variant of the Mate 20. At €1049, Huawei Mate Pro is probably the best bet among the four for someone who wants the best of power, design and also wants to have a device that fits their pocket easily.

Among the four, the Porsche design Huawei Mate RS is more of a collectors phone than something a regular customer would use, but if you like what Huawei’s regal offering and the Porsche exclusivity makes you tick, then this one is for you.

All the four devices are currently going on sale in UK and Europe. Indian, Australian and US availability or price haven’t been disclosed yet for the Huawei Mate 20 series. The Huawei Mate series hasn’t made it to India before, so this might be the first.

Huawei also unveiled Watch GT and Band 3 Pro fitness tracker. While neither the price was availability for the fitness tracker was disclosed, the watch has already started retailing at €199 for the sports version and € for the classic.
