Hulu is one of the prominent streaming services with a subscriber base of about 46 million. With such a huge subscriber base, problems are bound to happen. One such problem is the freezing issue with Hulu.
In this article, we talk about the possible causes and solutions when Hulu keeps freezing.
Hulu keeps freezing because of the possible reasons:
- Slow internet speed.
- Issues with the hardware.
- The Hulu app isn’t working.
- Hulu servers are down.
- Cache issues.
Now that we have understood why Hulu seems to freeze, it is time for solutions to the problem. Here, we have listed 6 solutions that might help you fix the problem.
Check the internet connection
Hulu recommends that your internet download speed should at least be 3 Mbps for Hulu’s Streaming Library, 8 Mbps for live streams and 16 Mbps for 4K content streaming.
So, check your internet speed on any third-party website and then contact your Internet Service Provider if you don’t have sufficient bandwidth in the current plan.
Also, do the following checks to make sure that there is no problem on your side:
- Check that the ethernet cables are secured properly in the ports.
- Update the router firmware and check for physical damage.
- Check the main power source for any damages.
- Power cycle the router and the modem.
- Ask your ISP for any internet outage in your area.

Update the Hulu app
Update the Hulu app as soon as there is one. Usually, this works most of the time as companies release updates to patch existing vulnerabilities and bugs.
Visit the specific app store of your device for any updates. Also, update your current device as well.
Clear cache and data
Cache helps in storing some data of the apps that you frequently use so as to lessen the loading time of the app. But if the cache is corrupted, then it might cause a few problems. So, you should clear the cache once in a while.
To clear the cache in Android, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Hulu > Storage and cache > Clear cache.

For iPhone and iPad, head to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Hulu. Then delete and uninstall the app.
Similarly, you should clear the cache on Windows and Mac.

Check the number of account users
Only two people can use a single Hulu account at the same time. If you want to stream Hulu on more than two screens, then you will have to subscribe to the unlimited screen add-ons.
Unless you opt for the unlimited screen add-on, you will have to remove the additional devices from the Hulu account. Open the Hulu app or website and then head to Account > Manage Devices > Remove.
Uninstall and reinstall the app
If the current version of the app is corrupted, then it might be a good idea to uninstall the app. Once the app is uninstalled, go to the app store and again install the app.
Test other apps or programs on your current device
It will help you to narrow down the list of possible causes. For example, if the other programs are working fine, then there is a problem with the Hulu app, and if the other programs are also running sluggishly, then it is because of the internet or your device.
