Why is my Outlook view changed? Quick Fix

Microsoft Outlook has been a popular email program used mainly by professionals to manage their emails. It’s known for its user-friendly design and many useful features that help people manage emails, calendars, contacts, and tasks. But sometimes, users may face unexpected changes in how Outlook looks.

In this article, we have discussed the causes of changes in Outlook view and a few ways to help you fix the problem.


What changes the Outlook view?

Below we have mentioned a few possible reasons that might be changing the Outlook view.

  • View settings are changed.
  • Using an outdated Outlook app.
  • Interference by Add-ins.
  • Interference by a third-party app.
  • Corrupted user profile.

How to fix the issue?

If the Outlook view has changed automatically on your device and you want to return the older view, we have explained a few methods to get Outlook as it was.

Reset the Outlook view

To reset the Outlook view, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open the Outlook app, click on the View tab, then click on the Reset View button to reset any changes to the Outlook view.

Step 2: Click the Change View button and select different views from the list.

Step 3: To manage the views, click on the Change Views button and then click on the Manage Views option.

Step 4: You can make a new view, modify and even reset it. To reset them click on Reset and then click on the OK button


Reset the Outlook view using the Run dialogue box

You can also reset all the Outlook settings to default by running a simple command through the Run dialogue box. To do that, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Press Windows + R key to open the Run dialogue box, type the command outlook.exe /cleanviews, and hit Enter.

It will open Outlook and reset Outlook view settings to default settings.

Update Microsoft Office

To check for the update of Microsoft Office, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open Outlook and click on the File tab.

Step 2: Click on the Office Account option from the side panel and then the Update Options button.

Step 3: Click the Update Now option in the dropdown menu.


Disable Outlook Add-ins

Some additional tools you installed in Outlook, called Add-ins, could be responsible for the changes in your Outlook view. If you disable these Add-ins, your Outlook view may return to as it was. To disable the add-ins follow the steps below.

Step 1: First, run Outlook in safe mode, press Windows + R keys to launch the Run dialogue box, type outlook.exe /safe and hit Enter.

Step 2: Click on the File tab.

Step 3: Then click on Options.

Step 4: In the Outlook options window, click on the Add-ins option in the sidebar and then click the Go button.

Step 5: Select the add-ins from the menu that you think might be causing the issue and then click on the Remove button and then restart your PC.

Create a new Outlook profile

Your Outlook profile contains information about all the accounts you use in the app, their data files, and custom settings. This profile is saved on your computer and can be damaged because of malware, faulty add-ons, or an improper Outlook installation. When the profile gets corrupted, you might encounter app problems, like a different layout view. To create a new profile, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Launch the control panel, type Mail in the search box, and click on the first result Mail (Microsoft Outlook).

Step 2: In the pop-up box, click on the Show Profiles button.

Step 3: In the next window, click on Add button.

Step 4: In the new profile pop-up box, enter the Profile name and click OK button.

Step 5: Enter your name, email address and password. Then click on the Next button, and it will set up your profile; after that, click on Finish.

Microsoft Outlook is an important tool for professionals, and it can be concerning when the view changes suddenly. But there is no need to worry. With a simple understanding of its reasons, you can quickly fix the issue and return to your preferred layout.
