As good as Apple’s products are, their software experience also more often than not matches up to the hardware. That said, just like every other piece of tech, the software isn’t immune to random bugs or glitches.

In this article, we’re talking about the “preauth.account_not_found_error.body” error, its causes and what you can do to fix the problem.

What causes this error?

This is actually a rather usual error that can happen when you’re trying to log into an Apple service or website during high traffic. Common causes include:

  • Server outage at Apple’s end.
  • Your iPhone is locked to a specific carrier.
  • Internet connectivity issues.

How to fix this?

Here are seven fixes you can try out.

Check internet connection

This is a good time to check whether or not you have an active internet connection. If you’re on WiFi, make sure you’ve got an active link and that there are no signal issues. On cellular data, ensure that it’s enabled and that you’re getting good network coverage.

Restarting your router can help get rid of a bunch of seemingly random internet and connectivity issues that may be hindering your connection to Apple’s servers.

Check Apple’s server status

Another rather popular reason for the error is a server outage at Apple’s end. Even if the servers are live, high traffic such as when pre-orders for a new iPhone open, can cause such errors. Check Apple’s Service Status site for any problems and try again later to see if that helps.

Clear cookies and cache from Safari

A corrupt cookie or cache can cause all sorts of issues on a browser, including Safari, here’s how you can remove all cookies and cache to see if that resolves the error.

Here’s how to clear your browser data on a Mac.

Step 1: Open Safari, click the Safari menu and select Preferences.

Step 2: Open the Privacy tab and click the Manage Website Data button.

Step 3: Select the problematic website and click Remove.

If you’re on an iPhone, follow these steps.

  • Tap on Safari.
  • Scroll down and tap on Clear History and Website Data.
  • Then confirm by tapping on Clear History and Data.

Update Safari

Next up, check to make sure that Safari is up to date. While the browser should automatically keep itself updated, there’s a chance that the error may have caused it to drop back a few versions. If that’s the case, updating your browser can help.

Reset Network Settings on your iPhone or iPad

If the issue pertains, you can also try resetting the network settings on your iPhone, including carrier and WiFi settings.

Go to your iPhone or iPad’s settings and follow the steps mentioned below to reset network settings.

  • Tap on General.
  • Scroll down on the next page and tap on Reset.
  • Then tap on Reset Network Settings.

iPhone carrier restrictions

Last but not least, if you’ve recently switched carriers and are attempting to try a new one on your iPhone, you can see this error if your iPhone is locked to a certain carrier. Try either using the carrier locked to your iPhone or using a device that isn’t locked to a carrier to fix the error.
