How to report a scammer on Facebook?

Facebook is by far one of the largest social media networks on the planet with reportedly over 2.45 billion users as of Q3 2019. However, not all the people here are trying to make friends. There has been a steady rise of scammers and fake profiles on Facebook for quite some time now. Facebook does all it can to check this but a lot of people still get caught out by these scammers and end up facing losses be it financially or otherwise.

If you’ve also been a victim of something similar, your best bet is to report the incident to local authorities as well as report the profile of the scammer on Facebook. 

In this article, we’re going over how you can report a scammer or just about any profile that you suspect.

How to report a scammer on FB?

Login to your account on Facebook.com and follow the steps mentioned below to report a scammer.

Step 1: Head over to the profile of the scammer and click on the three horizontal dots on their profile.

Step 2: Click on the Find support or report profile button in the context menu.

Step 3: Select a problem from the given options and click on the Next button.

Step 4: Facebook will suggest you options to hide or block the profile alongwith reporting it. If it’s your own account and you’ve been locked out of it for whatever reason, you can choose to recover it as well.

Report a scammer on Facebook on Phone

To do the same on the Facebook app, follow these steps.

  • Head over to the profile of the scammer and click on the three horizontal dots on their profile.
  • Click on the Find support or report profile button on the next screen.
  • Select a problem from the given options and click Next.
  • Facebook will suggest you options to hide or block the profile alongwith reporting it. If it’s your own account and you’ve been locked out of it for whatever reason, you can choose to recover it as well. 

Once you send your report, Facebook analysis the profile and takes action according to their conclusion.
