GTA V is one of Rockstar’s most popular games and the biggest game in the GTA franchise so far. With the release of the game, Rockstar also debuted the Rockstar Games Launcher and Social Club to facilitate online gameplay.

However, as popular as the game is, there are still bugs and glitches that keep hampering the user experience from time to time. In this article, we’re talking about the error code 1000.1, its causes and what you can do to fix the problem.

What causes this error?

The error is mainly caused by either internet issues or a corrupt installation of the Rockstar Games Launcher or Rockstar Social Club. It’s triggered when the Rockstar Games Launcher cannot launch or connect to Rockstar Games Services.

How to fix this?

Here are five fixes you can try out.

Restart your computer

One of the easiest fixes to this error is to just restart your PC. Restarting your computer can fix a number of seemingly random issues with most games and programs including connectivity issues that might be causing problems with the Rockstar Games Launcher.

Use a VPN

Another possible reason why Rockstar Games Launcher cannot launch or connect to Rockstar Games Services could be that the IP assigned to you by your ISP is blocked by Rockstar. In such cases, you can get a new IP by using a VPN and successfully launch the game.

You can also try disabling your Windows firewall temporarily to see if that’s hampering the game’s connection to Rockstar’s servers.

Register your Social Club account

Registering your Social Club account at the Rockstar Social Club website is also a known workaround for this issue. If you’ve just created the account in the launcher or the game itself and haven’t registered it yet, try doing that to see if that fixes the problem.

Reinstall the Rockstar Games Launcher

Reinstalling the game launcher is a fix Rockstar itself recommends. Here’s how.

Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Add or remove programs. Click the corresponding search result.

Step 2: Find and delete the following programs.

  • Rockstar Games Launcher
  • Rockstar Games Social Club.

Step 3: Now open Windows Explorer and find and delete the following folders:

  • C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social Club
  • C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Launcher
  • C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher
  • C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club

Now restart your computer and head back to the Social Club website to download it again. Make sure that you install the launcher in its default location and you should be good to go.

Reach out to Rockstar support

If nothing else works, your best bet is to reach out to Rockstar Support and have them fix the issue for you. If the aforementioned fixes haven’t worked, there’s a good chance that there might be a glitch on Rockstar’s end and getting in touch with their support team will help you get some answers.
