Samsung launches Galaxy M42 5G: Specs and Price

On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled its latest mid-segment offering, the Galaxy M42 5G, which starts at INR 19,999 and will be available online and in retail stores on May 1.

The Galaxy M42 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 750G, features a quad-camera setup with a 48 MP main camera and a 5000mAh battery. There’s an option to pick between 6 or 8GB RAM variants as well. The phone’s in-built storage stays at 128GB, with expandable memory up to 1TB.

Despite being claimed as the ‘most affordable’ 5G smartphone in India, Samsung Galaxy M42 5G falls is relatively expensive than the latest launches by Oppo and Realme are cheaper 5G alternatives with the Oppo A53s 5G starting at INR 14,990 and the Realme Narzo 30 Pro 5G starting at INR 16,999.

Price and availability

The phone comes in two variants — the 6GB variant at INR 21,999 and the 8GB variant at INR 22,999. 

The phone will be available across Samsung’s official website, Amazon and select retail stores. As part of a special introductory offer at launch, the 6GB variant is available at INR 19,999 and the 8GB variant at INR 21,999 on Samsung’s website and Amazon’s online sale coming up in May.

SoC

The M42 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 750G octa-core chipset running up to 2.2GHz and the Adreno 619, which strikes a good balance between powering the device up and being power efficient to make full use of the 5000 mAh battery.

There’s even a Game Booster and Frame Booster built into the phone to offer advanced gaming performance and a lag-free experience.


Camera

The phone is equipped with a quad-camera setup featuring a 48MP main ISOCELL GM2 sensor that has an effective resolution of 6000×8000 pixels.

There’s also an 8MP ultrawide lens with a 123-degree field of view. A 5MP macro lens is also present for taking close up shots. The rear camera also supports HDR and 4K video recording @30 fps. Other features include Single Take, Night Mode, Hyperlapse, Super-Slow motion, Scene Optimiser and Flaw Detection.

On the front, you get a 20MP lens with what Samsung call ‘Selfie focus’ for high-resolution selfies.

Memory and Storage

Aforementioned, the phone comes in two variants with 6GB and 8GB RAM. Regardless of the variant, the onboard memory stays locked at 128GB, and expandable memory goes up to 1TB. 


Display and Design

There’s a 6.6-inch AMOLED display with an HD+ resolution — better than HD but not really close to FHD. The phone has a prism dot design with a glossy finish on the back, coming in at about 8.6mm thin with a 3D design and layered pattern to help get users a comfortable grip.
