In this article, we’re talking about the aforementioned error, what causes it and how you can fix it to get your Instagram account up and running again.

What causes this Instagram error?
The most likely reason for this error is that you violated Instagram’s policies, got bulk reported on your account or posted something offensive. This usually means a temporary ban the duration for which is unknown.
However, here are a few fixes that can get your account active again.
How to fix this Instagram error?
Here are 11 ways you can try and get rid of the ‘Sorry there was a problem with your request on Instagram’ error.
Check your internet connection
Aforementioned, the error isn’t exactly super descriptive. If you haven’t done anything in your knowledge that violates Instagram’s policies, you could simply be facing internet issues on your device.
Try Instagram on other devices
You can try logging into your Instagram account on other smartphone or PC and see if you’re able to access your account from there. If you’re able to, that indicates that either your app or device is at fault.

Disable your account temporarily
The method involves disabling your account for a distinct period of time and enabling it again. You can follow these steps on either your phone or PC’s web browser.
Step 1: Head over to your browser and log in to Instagram, Now head over to your profile by clicking on your profile picture icon.
Step 2: Open your profile settings by clicking on the Edit Profile button.
Step 3: Scroll down on the Edit Profile tab and click on Temporarily disable my account.
Now, wait for about six hours before enabling your account again. Make sure you do not log in at all. After that, try logging in to the app again, and the ‘Sorry there was a problem with your request on Instagram’ error should be resolved.
Duplicate your Instagram app
Although we don’t recommend using this method, you can potentially get around this error by duplicating your Instagram app using apps like Parallel Space, Island or Shelter.
Change the phone IMEI and Android ID
This method is exclusive to Android users and especially those who have rooted their phones. Once again, we do not recommend going such extreme measures, but if you have already rooted your phone, changing the IMEI number and Android ID of your device can potentially fix the error.
Clear the cache
A cache is a place where apps store temporary files as long as they’re needed. In case a file in the cache goes corrupt, it can cause a bunch of issues.
Follow these steps for Android.
- Head over to your phone’s settings and tap Apps and notifications.
- Tap on Show all apps and find Instagram from the list. If you’ve recently used Instagram it’ll show up in the recent apps as well.
- Locate Instagram in this list.
- Once on the app settings page, tap on Storage and cache
- Tap on the Clear cache button to clear all the data your app has stored.
Follow these steps for iOS.
- Tap on General.
- Head over to iPhone Storage.
- Scroll down to find Instagram and tap on it for more options.
- Tap on Offload App. This will clear the app’s cache.
Now try opening the app again and logging in. You should be able to get past the error.
Contact Instagram
You can also try contacting Instagram regarding the ‘Sorry there was a problem with your request on Instagram’. issue if you think you’re not breaching any policies.
- Open the Instagram app and head over to your profile by tapping your profile picture in the bottom-right.
- Tap on the hamburger menu icon on the top right to open the options menu.
- Tap on Settings.
- Head over to Help.
- Under Help tap on Report a Problem.
- You’ll be presented a few options to choose from. Tap on Report a Problem again.
- Here you can describe the issues you’re facing and attach any relevant screenshots as well.
Once you’ve reported to Instagram, all you can do is sit back, wait and hope you get lucky.

Try logging in with your Facebook account
Logging in with your Facebook account can help you get around this issue as well. However, if you’ve already linked your Facebook and Instagram accounts, you might have to make a new Facebook account for this method to work.
You can follow along with these steps on your phone browser as well, but we suggest you do this on a PC browser.
Step 1: Head over to your browser and log in to Instagram, Now head over to your profile by clicking on your profile picture icon.
Step 2: Open your profile settings by clicking on the Edit Profile button.
Step 3: Scroll down on the Edit Profile tab and click on Accounts center.
Step 4: Click on your Facebook account.
Step 5: Click on Remove from Accounts Center.
Now reinstall your Instagram app and select the login with Facebook account this time around while logging into the app or from the website.
Try updating the Instagram app
More often than not developers are aware of any bugs in their apps and releases patches or updates to fix them. If you’re facing this error, try checking your respective app store for updates to the Instagram app and install them if you have any.
Follow these steps for Android.
- In the Play Store, tap on the hamburger menu icon in the top-left.
- Tap on My apps and games.
- You’ll be able to see all apps that require an update here. If you see the Instagram app, update it and your issue should be resolved.
Follow these steps for iOS.
- Tap on the profile icon at the top-right of your App Store’s homepage.
- Scroll down a bit to see a list of all the app updates available on the next screen.
- If you see an update available, tap on the Update button beside Instagram.
Reinstall the Instagram app
If updating didn’t solve the issue or there was no update available, removing the app from your phone and installing it again can also fix a bunch of seemingly random issues, including ‘Sorry there was a problem with your request on Instagram’.
Factory reset your phone
This might sound drastic, but as a last resort, you can try factory resetting your phone and trying to log into the app again.
- Head over to your phone’s settings and tap on System.
- Tap on Advanced.
- Tap on Reset options.
- Tap Erase all data (factory reset)
- Tap the final conformation and wait for your device to reboot.
