How to stop navigation in Google Maps?

In our fast-paced world, navigation apps have become an integral part of everyone’s daily lives. With just a few taps on your smartphone, you can effortlessly find your way through unfamiliar streets, and locate and reach your destinations.

However, there are moments when we need to pause the guiding voice, take a detour, or disengage from navigation.

This article discusses the steps to stop navigation in Maps through Voice command, Notification panel and directly from the navigation screen.

Stopping navigation through voice command

If you are driving or your hands are busy and you want to stop the navigation then you use the voice command, to use the voice command to stop the navigation follow the steps below.

To initiate a command, it is necessary to wake the Google Assistant by saying OK Google.
Then say any of these phrases Cancel navigation, Stop navigation or Exit navigation.

Stopping navigation through the Notification panel

If you have minimised the Maps application while using another app then you can stop the navigation through the notification panel, to do so follow the step below.

Scroll down the Notification panel by swiping down from the top of the screen.
In the notification panel, tap on Exit navigation.

Stopping navigation from the Navigation screen

If you are on the Navigation screen and aren’t sure how to stop navigation then look for the X icon at the bottom left corner of the screen and tap on it.
