Soundcloud is an online audio distribution platform and a music sharing website, which allows you to upload, promote and share the audio files. If you are a Soundcloud Go+ user, you can also download songs from the platform uploaded by other users.
The Sweden-based music sharing platform, which was launched in 2007, and boasts approximately 200 million MAUs, also helped now-popular artists like Post Malone and Kehlani, among several others, to kickstart their music career and taste initial fame.
In this article, we will guide you through how you can upload a music track on the Soundcloud website and mobile app in a few simple steps.
Uploading music on SoundCloud’s website
Login to your account Soundcloud.com on any browser on your PC and follow the steps below to upload music on Soundcloud.
Step 1: Click on the Upload tab, to the right of the search box at the top of the screen.
Step 2: On the next screen, you can drag and drop the music file or you can click on the Or choose files to upload button. It will open the file explorer on your PC where you can select the track you want to upload to Soundcloud.
You can make that track private or public, if you set its privacy to public then everybody will be able to find and listen to it while private setting only allows you and those you’ve shared a link of the song with to tune in and listen.
Step 3: On the next screen, you have to fill the information for your track, which includes title, genre, tags, description and privacy of the track, under the Basic info tab.
Under the Metadata tab you can add artist, publisher, composer details and set a buy-link to the track, its license type and release date.
Under the Permissions tab, you can enable or disable the direct downloads, offline listening, app playback, display embed code and choose whether you want to include in your RSS feed or not. After you’re done adding the aforementioned details, click on the Save button at the bottom right corner.
Your track will be uploaded, you can go to your track and listen to it by clicking on Go to your track link below your track information.
You can also share the track with your friends on Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr by clicking on the respective icons beside the name of the track and you can copy the link to directly share it with your friends too.

Uploading music on SoundCloud mobile app
Launch the Soundcloud app and follow the steps below to upload your music.
- Tap on the Upload button at the top right corner of the screen.
- Device storage will open, select the file which you want to upload.
- On the next screen, you can upload a picture for your track, add genre, description and change privacy settings. Unlike the Soundcloud website, you cannot edit metadata and permissions for your track on its app.
- After you’re done adding the track details, tap on the Save icon at the top right corner of the screen
