There are hundreds of battle games available today for Android and iOS devices. And this has created a challenge for the Esport developers to always come up with unique ideas for new gameplay modes that can keep the players hooked to their game.
Free Fire is no exception to this rat race; the developers incorporate various new features with routine updates to keep the inflow of its users intact. BR – Battle Royale – is one such core game mode of Free Fire that has helped carry the game to the elite club of the gaming market.

BR Mode in Free Fire
Battle Royale, also referred to as BR, is an online multiplayer video game genre that involves many combatants exploring and scavenging resources in exotic battle rich terrains and fighting each other to the last man standing.
Free Fire’s BR mode offers four terrains to its users — Purgatory, Bermuda, Kalahari and Alpine — where players are pitted against each other in a batch of a maximum of 50 at a time. However, only three Bermuda, Purgatory and Alpine maps can be chosen for ranked mode.
These 50 players are flown to four islands in solo, duo and squad format. Every player is supposed to quickly arm themselves and collect necessary supplies for the foreseeable battle.
The game’s challenges are finding the best weapons and armour scattered randomly around the map while fighting not only the enemy but also the time as the map will continuously shrink, providing less and less safe ground every few minutes. And reaching late to these safe zones will be fatal.
Aside from the Battle Royale mode, the game offers other game modes. They are:
- Ranked Game
- Classic
- Clash Squad (Ranked and non-Ranked)
- Cosmic Racer

How to play the BR mode in Free Fire?
The default mode in Free Fire is the BR mode. But it will only have the Bermuda map preinstalled; to swipe through a different map, you have to download extra files.
To know how to download and change the game map refer to the step-by-step guide mentioned below.
Step1: Press on the mode selection option at the bottom right corner of the home page screen, as shown in the picture below.
Step2: Several game modes would then appear on the next window. Here, click on the BR-Ranked option.
Step3: A list of all the BR-ranked maps will appear; tap the download icon to install them all.
In the BR-Ranked mode game, the maps are selected randomly but if you wish to play in a specific map, then go to the Battle Royale-choose map option on the mode selection menu.
Step4: Finally, select the gameplay Format and hit the Start button.
