Whatsapp is one of the most popular messaging apps on the planet at the moment and is showing no signs of slowing down. With the new desktop version, the app now lets you call your favourite contacts from your Windows or macOS computer as well.
However, it might not go as smoothly as you’d expect. In this article, we’re taking a look at the Whatsapp could not find connected audio device error.

Try restarting
The first thing you should try is to restart Whatsapp and/or your device. As cliched as it sounds, rebooting can still fix several seemingly random issues with just about anything. Checking your audio ports isn’t such a bad idea either.
Check your internet
The first thing you should do is check if your computer actually has an active internet connection. It goes without saying that your phone and computer both need to be connected to the internet before Whatsapp Web can work properly.

Update to the latest Whatsapp web version
Desktop calling is only supported on Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 and newer and macOS version 10.13 or newer. If you’re using an older version or haven’t updated Whatsapp web in quite a while, now’s the time to check and see if there’s an update available and if there is, update immediately and try again.
Check your privacy settings
Windows and macOS both have inbuilt privacy settings that can keep programs from accessing your camera and mic. If these settings are stopping Whatsapp web from accessing these devices you can run into calling problems.
Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Privacy Settings. Click on the corresponding search result.
Step 2: Head over to the Microphone tab and make sure that the Allow apps to use your microphone slider is enabled.
Step 3: Now ensure that the Allow desktop apps to use the microphone slider is enabled and that Whatsapp is included in the list.
Restart your PC and give it another go.

Check your drivers
If nothing else works, it’s either an issue with the mic itself or the drivers. Here’s how you can update the mic drivers on your PC.
Step 1: Press Windows key + X and click on Device Manager.
Step 2: Unde Audio Inputs and Outputs, select your mic, right-click it and select Update Driver.
Step 3: Select Search automatically for drivers and wait for the process to finish. Your drivers should’ve been updated now.
Restart your PC and try again.
Reinstall Whatsapp
If nothing else works, your best bet is to reinstall Whatsapp from either the Microsoft store or the official Whatsapp web website and see if a complete reinstall can fix your problem.
