Smartwatches have been around for quite some time now but have always been low on accessibility features. However, as further generations of smartwatches become more and more advanced, they are also reaching out to more and more people, including those with impairments. People with visual impairment have always found it hard to use screens; be it computers, phones or smartwatches. As smartwatches get more technically adept, these accessibility features have also been catching up with them.
One such feature is greyscaled screens. Not only they might make screens easier to read and see for someone with a medical condition, but they can also make it easy on the battery. Samsung’s watches turn on the greyscale feature on its screens when the battery saver is on to make huge gains on battery life.
This feature is present on all Samsung smartwatches running the latest TizenOS update starting from the Gear Sport to the recently released Galaxy Watch 3.
In this article, we’re going to see how you can enable greyscale screen on your Samsung smartwatch.

Enabling greyscale screens
Step 1: Press the home button to go to the main menu and then head over to Settings.

Step 2: Scroll down until you find the Accessibility option.

Step 3: Tap on Visibility Enhancements.

Step 4: Scroll down to the Greyscale option. Tap on the toggle switch to enable or disable the effect.

On enabling this effect, all colours in your smartwatch display, regardless of menu or screen, will switch to black and white. Aforementioned, this can help people with visual impairments and will significantly boost battery life as well.
Note that you’ll also find the invert colours setting in this menu as well. You can use this to aid your vision in case grayscale doesn’t help.
