While profile pictures have become a standard across social networks, background photos are relatively new and allow the users to customise the look and feel of their profiles a bit more. In line with the most popular platforms, Linkedin also allows users to add background photos to their profiles to add more appeal.
If you’re looking to tweak your profile’s look a bit, here we explain how you can change the background photo on Linkedin, followed by guides to add a background photo if you don’t already have one and delete the background photo.
Note that, at the time of writing, you can only change the background photo on Linkedin via its website either on PC or a smartphone browser set to desktop mode.
The recommended dimensions for Linkedin's background photo is 1584 (width) x 396 (height) pixels. The maximum file allowed file size in 8MB and JPG, GIF, PNG files are supported.

Changing a background photo on Linkedin
Log in to your account on Linkedin.com and follow the steps mentioned below to change the background photo on your Linkedin profile.
Step 1: Either click on your profile picture to the left of the page or click on the Me option on the right of the toolbar at the top and select View profile from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: On your Linkedin profile page, click on the Edit (pencil) icon at the top-right of the background photo.
Step 3: On the pop=up window, click on the Change photo button.
Step 4: Then choose an image from your PC; keep in mind the recommended dimensions mentioned above. Then click on the Open button at the bottom-right of the explorer window.
Step 5: You’ll now see the selected image in the on-site image editor where you can reposition the image, crop it, add filters and also adjust some settings such as saturation, brightness and contrast. Once you’re done, click on the Apply button at the bottom-right of the box.

Adding a background photo on Linkedin
If you don’t already have a background photo set up on Linkedin, the steps might appear a bit different than above. Follow the steps mentioned below to add a background photo on Linkedin.
Step 1: On your Linkedin profile page, click on the camera icon at the top-right of the background photo box (located above your profile picture).
Step 2: On the pop=up window, click on the Upload photo button.
Step 3: Then choose an image from your PC; keep in mind the recommended dimensions mentioned above. Then click on the Open button at the bottom-right of the explorer window.
Step 4: Now you can edit the image as explained in the guide above using the various tools to crop and edit the background photo. Once you’re done, click on the Apply button at the bottom-right of the box.

How to delete the background photo on Linkedin?
If you don’t want any background image on your Linkedin profile and liked the default one better, here is how you can delete the background photo from your profile. Go to your profile page and follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: On your Linkedin profile page, click on the Edit (pencil) icon at the top-right of the background photo.
Step 2: On the pop=up window, click on the Delete photo button.
Step 3: On the confirmation box, click on the Delete button.
