The efficiency mode has been introduced in Windows as part of Microsoft’s effort to reduce battery and energy consumption. Under this initiative, Microsoft aims to decrease its thermal footprint considerably by prioritising the programs and managing tasks more effectively.
Doing so, there will be slower battery consumption, and the batteries will last longer. Moreover, the programs that you are currently using, the high-priority programs, will be allocated more RAM and the background programs will be paused or limited.
However, the efficiency mode also causes some problems with the programs themselves. When you set any program in efficiency mode, many functionalities are blocked, and you’ll face problems while running that program. If that program is Chrome, the problems are endless. People have reported that in efficiency mode, they cannot install updates and also reported a considerable drop in performance.
In this article, we’ll explain how to disable efficiency mode in Chrome and get Chrome running again. However, some of these steps may involve quitting Chrome. So, save all your work before trying on these fixes.
Method 1: Disabling efficiency mode in selected Chrome processes
If you see the leaf icon in front of some Chrome processes, here’s how to disable efficiency mode in these processes.
Step 1: Open Task Manager and then double-click on Google Chrome to expand the process. Here, you will see multiple Chrome processes with the efficiency mode on.

Step 2: Select one such process with the efficiency mode on and then tap the Efficiency mode option on the top right of the screen to turn it off.

Do this step for every sub-process of Chrome, and you can easily disable efficiency mode in Chrome.
