Time is money, and keyboard shortcuts help us save our valuable time. Keyboard shortcuts are a workaround to the things that you will typically do by clicking on the screen and help you get things done quicker. For example, to print a Google Calendar, you will have to click on various options, whereas by Ctrl + P keyboard shortcut, the print window appears instantly.
In this article, we bring all the keyboard shortcuts for Chromebook in five sub-sections and hope that you do benefit from the list.
Note: Since this is an extensive list, we recommend that you press Ctrl+F and enter the function for which you’re trying to find the keyboard shortcut.
Tabs and windows shortcuts
- Ctrl + n: To open a new window.
- Shift + Ctrl + n: To open a new window in Incognito mode.
- Ctrl + t: To open a new tab.
- Ctrl + o: To open a file in a browser.
- Ctrl + w: To close a current tab.
- Shift + Ctrl + w: To close the current window.
- Shift + Ctrl + t: To reopen a last tab or window that you closed.
- Ctrl + 1 through Ctrl + 8: To open 1-8 tabs in the Window.
- Ctrl + 9: To open the last tab.
- Ctrl + Tab: Next tab in a window.
- Shift + Ctrl + Tab: Previous tab in the window.
- Alt + Tab: To switch quickly between windows.
- Shift + Alt, then tap Tab: To open the window you use least.
- Ctrl, then press Forward or Back until the tab you want to open gets highlighted. Then press Search + Shift + Volume up: To open tabs menu.
- Alt + Left arrow: Previous page in your browsing history.
- Alt + Right arrow: To go the next page in your browsing history.
- Press Ctrl and click a link: To open the link in a new tab.
- Press Shift + Ctrl and click a link: To open the link in a new tab and switch to the new tab.
- Press Shift and click a link: To open the link in a new window.
- Drag the link to the address bar: To open the link in the same tab.
- Drag the link to a blank area beside an open tab: Opens the link in a new tab.
- Insert a URL, press Alt + Enter: To open the webpage in a new tab.
- Press escape while dragging the tab: To return the tab in its original position.
- Alt + [: To shift and dock a window on the left.
- Alt + =: To maximise the window.
- Alt + -(minus) : To minimise the window.
- Alt + ]: To shift and dock a window to the right.
- Search + Alt + m: To switch between screens when the Chromebook is connected to the monitor.
Page and web browser
- Search + Up arrow or Alt + Up arrow: To page up.
- Search + Down arrow or Alt + Down arrow: To page down.
- Space bar: To scroll down a webpage.
- Ctrl + Alt + Up arrow: To go to the top of the page.
- Ctrl + Alt + Down arrow: To go to the bottom of the page.
- Ctrl + p: To print the page.
- Ctrl + s: To save the current page.
- Ctrl + r: To reload the current page.
- Shift + Ctrl + r: To reload the current page without using the cached content.
- Ctrl and +: To zoom in on the page.
- Ctrl and – (minus): To zoom out on a page.
- Ctrl + 0: To reset the zoom level.
- Esc: To stop the loading of your current page.
- Press Alt and click a link: To right-click on a link.
- Press Ctrl and click a link: To open the link in a new tab in the background.
- Drag a link to bookmarks bar: To save the link as a bookmark.
- Ctrl + d: To save the link as a bookmark.
- Shift + Ctrl + d: To save all open pages in the current window as a bookmark in the new folder.
- Ctrl + f: To search the current page.
- Ctrl + g or Enter: To go to the next match for your search.
- Shift + Ctrl + g or Shift + Enter: To go to the previous match for your search.
- Alt + Shift + a: To go to an inactive information field.
- Ctrl + k or Ctrl + e: To perform a Google search.
- Ctrl + Enter: To add www. and .com to your input in the address bar, then open the page.
- Ctrl + u: To view page source.
- Shift + Ctrl + i: To show or hide the Developer Tools panel.
- Ctrl + Shift + c: To navigate to the selected section in the Developer Tools panel.
- Shift + Ctrl + j: To open the Console tab in the Developer Tools panel.
- Shift + Ctrl + b: To show or hide the bookmarks bar.
- Alt + Shift + t: To show the toolbar.
- Ctrl + Shift + c: To navigate to selected selection in the Developer Tools pane.
- Ctrl + h: To open the History page.
- Ctrl + j: To open the Downloads page.
- Shift + Alt + Backspace: To delete selected Autofill suggestion when filling out a form.
System and display settings
- Shift + Alt + m: To open the Files app.
- Select the file, then press Space: To preview a file in the Files app.
- Ctrl + . : To display hidden files in the Files app.
- Shift + Alt + s: To open the status area (where the time appears).
- Alt + 1 through Alt + 8: To click icons 1-8 on your shelf.
- Alt + 9: To click the last icon on your shelf.
- Search + 1 through Search + = : To use F keys (F1 to F12).
- Shift + Alt + n: To see your notifications.
- Shift + Ctrl and + or – (minus): To change screen resolution.
- Shift + Ctrl + 0: To reset screen resolution to default.
- Shift + Ctrl + Rotate: To rotate screen 90 degrees.
- Ctrl + Alt + . (period): To switch to the next user.
- Ctrl + Alt + , (comma): To switch to the previous user.
Text editing
- Search + Alt: To turn Caps Lock on or off.
- Ctrl + A: Select all.
- Ctrl + L or Alt + D: To select the content in the address bar.
- Shift + Ctrl + Right arrow: To select the next word or letter.
- Search + Shift + Right arrow: To select text to the end of the line.
- Search + Shift + Left arrow: To select text to the beginning of the line.
- Shift + Ctrl + Left arrow: To select previous word or letter.
- Ctrl + Right arrow: Moves the cursor to the end of the next word.
- Ctrl + Left arrow: Moves the cursor to the start of the previous word.
- Search + Left arrow: To move to the beginning of the line.
- Search + Right arrow: Moves the cursor to the end of the line.
- Search + Ctrl + Right arrow: To go to end of document.
- Search + Ctrl + Left arrow: To go to the beginning of a document.
- Ctrl + C: Copy selected content.
- Ctrl + V: Paste selected content.
- Shift + Ctrl + V: To paste content from the clipboard as plain text.
- Ctrl + X: To cut.
- Ctrl + Backspace: To delete the previous word.
- Alt + Backspace: To delete the next letter (forward delete).
- Ctrl + Z: To undo your last action.
- Shift + Ctrl + Z: To redo your last action.
- Shift + Ctrl + Space: To switch between the keyboard languages you’ve set.
- Ctrl + Space: To switch to the previous keyboard language you were using.

- Ctrl + Alt + Z: To turn ChromeVox (spoken feedback) on or off.
- Search + Ctrl + H: To turn on high contrast mode.
- Ctrl + Search + M: To magnify your whole screen.
- Ctrl + Search + D: To magnify part of your screen.
- Shift + Alt + L: To highlight the launcher button.
- Shift + Alt + L, then Tab/Right arrow: To highlight the next item on your shelf.
