The introduction of Apple Pencil brought about a shift in how an iPad is used. For some, it replaces the traditional pen and paper, and for others, it acts as a precision tool that furthers their art.
The deeper integration that iPadOS 14 brings for Apple Pencil makes it more useful, but in some applications, an active Pencil can clash with on-screen activities leading to odd glitches.
Hence, in this article, we have listed four methods using which you can disconnect your Apple Pencil to avoid unnecessary UI interaction and prevent needless discharge.
Method 1: Turn off Bluetooth on iPad
Turning Bluetooth off on your iPad will not only disable Apple Pencil but will also disconnect other Bluetooth-based devices. Hence, we recommend trying out the other methods mentioned further ahead in this article.
Nevertheless, listed below are steps you need to follow to turn Bluetooth off on iPad:
- Open Settings and access Bluetooth sub-section.
- Toggle Bluetooth off.
Note: Pulling down Control Centre and deactivating Bluetooth from there will not disconnect the Apple Pencil.
Method 2: Turn off iPad
Turning an iPad off resets the connection between Apple Pencil and the tablet. To start using the stylus again you will have to pair it either by plugging it in (1st-gen) or placing it on the magnetic strip (2nd-gen).
Listed below are the steps you need to follow to turn off iPad:
For devices without a Home button
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button alongwith either of the volume buttons for a few seconds until, “slider to power off” shows up. Do as shown to turn off the iPad.
