Discord is one of the most popular VOIP programs out there at the moment. The program was initially meant to be for games but recently it has evolved to cater to the needs of a much larger audience.

There aren’t exactly a lot of reasons why you may be seeing this error, however, here are the top three reasons you might encounter this.
- Discord’s system files or setting are corrupt: Any broken or corrupt files that Discord uses to function might cause this error.
- Quality Windows Audio Video Experience service isn’t running: Since Discord deals with audio and video on your PC, this service is vital to the core functionality of the program. If this isn’t running, you might see this error.
- Discord is running with administrator privileges: A lot of users have reported that running Discord with admin privileges might cause issues with the program.
Let’s talk about a few solutions you can use to resolve this error.

Here are five methods you can use to rectify the situation.
Restart your PC
Restarting your PC is the first thing that you should try out when diagnosing and troubleshooting issues with programs. This can work like magic and can solve issues with just about any program, including Discord.
Delete Discord folders
DIscord saves it’s resource files in the AppData and LocalAppData directories. By deleting these folders and restarting Discord, you can force the program to rebuild these files resolving any problems in the process.
Step 1: Open the Run prompt by using Windows Key + R, type in %appdata% and hit enter.
Step 2: Delete the discord folder in the directory.
Now repeat these steps with %localappdata% and restart Discord.
Check the Quality Windows Audio Video Experience Service
Aforementioned, this service is required for Discord to function properly. Follow these steps to ensure that the service is running and that it automatically starts when you open Windows.
Step 1: Press Windows Key + R to open the Run prompt, type in services.msc and hit enter.
Step 2: Locate the Quality Windows Audio Video Experience service from the list. Right click on it and select Properties.
Step 3: Make sure that the service is running, if not start it by clicking the Start button.
Step 4: Make sure that Startup type is set to Automatic.
Now you might see an error stating Windows could not start the service on Local Computer. In order to resolve this, click on the Log On tab, Under Log on as, select This account and type in Local Service in the account name followed by your Windows account password.
Restart Discord and the error should’ve gone away.

Run Discord without Admin privileges
Running Discord with admin privileges has known to cause problems for a lot of people, ourselves included. The best way to avoid this is to locate the Discord executable, and make sure it doesn’t start using elevated privileges.
If you’ve installed Discord without changing any settings, you’ll find the executable here.
Step 1: Open Windows Explorer and head over to the given directory.
Step 2: You’ll see a file named Update.exe. Right click it and select Properties.
Step 3: Under the Compatibility tab, make sure that the Run this program as an administrator is unchecked.
Now restart your PC and try accessing Discord again.
If nothing else works for you, reinstalling Discord can fix just about every problem you’re facing with the program. However, we first need to close all running Discord processes.
Step 1: Right click on the taskbar and click on Task Manager.
Step 2: Under the Processes tab, find any running Discord processes and close them by right cliking them and selecting End Process.
Step 3: Once you’ve ended all running Discord processes, we’re going to remove Discord. To do so, simply press Windows key + X to bring up the quick access menu. Select Apps and Features from this menu.
Step 4: Find Discord in the list, click on it and select Uninstall.
Now head over to the Discord website to download the latest version of the program and install it on your PC.
