How to fix error code i2501 in FFXIV?

Most games have some sort of in-game purchase that you can make through the developer’s portal. That said, no matter how good the game there is some sort of a bug or glitch that keeps popping up from time to time.

In this article, we’re talking about the error code i2501 in Final Fantasy XIV when trying to make purchases from Square Enix’s platform.

What causes this error?

There are a number of reasons why you might see the error code i2501 when making a purchase. Some of the most common ones include.

  • Using a VPN or Proxy
  • The user isn’t located in the country where the payment method (debit/credit card) was issued.
  • The payment was rejected twice in 24 hours.
  • Incorrect payment details.

How to fix this?

Here are six fixes you can try out.

Disable VPN or Proxies

As mentioned before, VPNs and Proxies are the leading cause of this error. Geo-restrictions on game and payment methods mean that you can’t access certain services in certain areas. Most games and platforms, in general, have also evolved to detect VPN presence and hence using a VPN can trigger this error. You can also try disabling any ad blockers that you might be using.

Use Incognito mode

Another possible fix as an extension to the aforementioned solution is to use your browser’s incognito mode. This will ensure you’re visiting Square Enix’s website in a fresh session and will often let the payment go through.

Wait for 24 hours

If your payment has failed twice in 24 hours, you need to wait 24 hours from the last payment attempt to be able to try again. This is a security measure implemented by Square Enix to prevent users’ accounts from being scammed or stolen as well as to protect payment information.

Use your phone

Another potential solution is to simply use your phone’s browser to make the payment. Even if your phone’s browser and IP address are the same as your computer, trying the payment from another device does seem to have a higher chance of success.

Clear your browser’s cache

Corrupt files in your cache or otherwise can cause this error as well. Clear them out to see if you can get Chrome to work.

Step 1: Type in chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in your browser’s address bar and hit Enter.
