How to fix Error DX11 Feature Level 10.0 on Fortnite?

It’s common to see errors around DirectX and Feature Levels in games such as Fortnite. ARK, PUBG or just about any of the modern titles and one of the common ones happen to be the DX11 feature level 10.0 error on Fortnite. The message is likely caused by having older DirectX versions installed or having outdated drivers for your graphics cards.

Now, the first thing you should do if you see any such error is to try rebooting your machine. Rebooting your PC can fix more problems than you can count and this is one of them.

Alternatively, you should also check if there are any new updates pending for your installation of Windows or for your specific game. More often than not, updating your game or Windows will help resolve the error.  

If you’re still stuck seeing the dreaded error, it’s time to update a few drivers or your DirectX installation.

 Updating your GPU drivers

Let’s start by updating our GPU drivers

Using Device Manager

Step 1: Right-click Start and select Device Manager from the menu.

Step 2: Under Display Adaptors. find your graphics card’s name, right-click on it and click on Update Drivers.

Step 3: Click on Search automatically for drivers. Windows will then automatically look for and download the latest drivers for your particular GPU.

While this should help you fix the DX11 feature level 10.0 error on Fortnite and other games, If it doesn’t work, you can also try removing your GPU drivers by right-clicking on it and then restarting your PC to reinstall them.

Using dedicated GPU Utility

If you have a dedicated graphics card, you’ll also have some sort of driver management utility such as the Nvidia GeForce Experience, which will automatically notify you when you have an update available.

You can always check these out and make sure you’re on the latest update.

Step 1: Launch Nvidia GeForce Experience and head over to the Drivers tab.

Step 2: Click on the Check for updates button at the top-right to look for updates or simply click the Download button if you see a pending driver update.

Updating your DirectX installation

If you’ve already done the aforementioned steps and are still facing this problem, the culprit is most likely an old version of DirectX. 

Now on Windows 10 DirectX isn’t exactly available, or needed as a standalone download as it comes packaged with every update. To fix or reinstall your DirectX, you can simply uninstall your GPU drivers as mentioned above and reboot your machine.
