Is HBO Max down?
The first thing you should do when encountering any HBO Max error is check if their servers are down. You can do so by visiting their social handles, checking for related trends on Twitter or using a third-party server detector to see if other people are having the same issue and if it’s an outage or if it’s just you.
If HBO Max’s servers are down, there isn’t much you can do except wait for them to resolve the issue. If everything seems ok with their service, go through the fixes below.
Update HBO Max app
If there’s no sign of HBO Max service disruption, check if an update is available for the app and install the update..
App updates often consist of bug fixes, which can help resolve error code 905 for you.
Clear HBO Max app cache or reinstall the app
App cache can also often cause issues with the smooth functioning of the app, especially if there have been no app updates in a while or a new feature is clashing with the cache.

If you’re unable to clear the app cache, uninstall the app and re-install.
Check your internet connection
A poor internet connection can also cause HBO Max error code 905. Check if your internet speed and latency are good enough. If not, restart your router or mobile internet.
Alternatively, you can also use the Airplane mode on your device to disconnect and reconnect to the internet and refresh the connection.
Disable VPN or Proxy
Using a proxy or VPN when trying to access HBO Max can also cause error code 905. Disable your VPN and try reconnecting.
If you’re streaming HBO Max from outside the localities where it’s currently available — US, some US territories, some countries in Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean — you might also see error 905.
If you’re in the country where it’s available, disable VPN or proxy connection and if you’re streaming from some other country, make sure your VPN is using a server in a country where HBO Max is available.
