The most crucial aspect of any computing device is its chipset. It is the single most important thing on any device, which determines other elements like the display, RAM and camera capabilities. In today’s market, there are a ton of chipsets available with various configurations for various price points.

The two chipsets which we will be talking about today are mostly found in mid-range Android devices — Helio P60 and the Snapdragon 660. Both have similar specifications and performances. There are certain parameters based on which we’ve compared the chipsets below.

Fabrication process

The smaller the lithography of a chipset, the lower its power consumption. The Snapdragon 660 is fabricated using a 14nm fabrication process. Mediatek uses a smaller fabrication process of 12nm — uses lesser power.

Number of cores and clock frequency 

The number of cores and their clock frequencies define the processing power of an SoC. If a core in an SoC has higher clock frequency, it can perform a higher number of tasks at once. The Helio P60 comes with two clusters with four cores each — four Cortex A53 cores and four Cortex A73, which operate at 2GHz.

This means that each of these cores can perform two thousand million instructions in a second. The Snapdragon 660 also has eight cores containing four cores in each cluster. It has four Kryo 260 Silver high-efficiency cores operating at 2.2GHz alongwith four high-performance Kryo 260 Gold operating at 1.8GHz.

Graphics Processing Unit

The Snapdragon 660 comes with a  superior Adreno 512 GPU with a clock frequency of 850 MHz. The Helio P60 comes with Mali G72 GPU with a lower clock frequency of 800MHz.

So if you are one of those people who love to play games on your mobile device you should prefer the snapdragon 660.

Camera support

MediaTek’s’ Helio P60 supports up to 16+24MP or a 32MP camera. The Snapdragon provides camera support up to 25MP or 16 MP dual camera with optical zoom. Snapdragon also provides a 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP, which reduces shutter lag and offers smooth zoom, fast autofocus and true-to-life colours for improved image quality.

AI

The Helio P60 chip comes with NeuroPilot AI technology, which enables it to perform face detection, AI-enhanced smart imaging, and video processing. The Snapdragon 660 comes with Qualcomm AI Engine hardware that includes a Hexagon vector processor, Adreno GPU, and Kryo CPU, that make on-device AI experiences possible in camera, audio, security, and gaming.

Benchmark Scores

The Snapdragon 660 scores 121,056  points on Antutu. In GeekBench the score is 1,572 in the single-core test and the multi-core test, it is 5,766.

On Antutu Benchmark app, the P60 scores 121,353 points. The GeekBench score in the single-core test is 1,538, and in the multi-core test, it is 5,652.

Final Verdict

Both these SoCs are great for a mid-range device. The P60 provides lesser power consumption as it has two different clusters and smaller lithography. The Snapdragon, on the other hand, offers a better GPU coupled with better display options and quick charge.
