Hisense dehumidifiers are reliable appliances designed to maintain the optimal humidity levels in your home. However, like any electronic device, they can encounter issues from time to time. One common problem that users may face is the error code E9.

What is error code e9?
Your dehumidifier relies on a humidity sensor to maintain the optimal humidity level in your home. When this sensor encounters issues, it shows the E9 error code, signifying a problem with the sensor’s circuits or exposure to external elements. In simpler terms, there’s a breakdown in communication between the dehumidifier and the sensor, possibly due to a loose wire connection.

What causes this error?
Various reasons might cause the E9 issue, and the most common causes are mentioned below:
- Loose Wire connection or pins
- The air filter needs cleaning
- Condenser coils need cleaning
- Circuit board issues
- Faulty humidity sensor
How to fix the error?
Here are a few troubleshooting methods that will help you resolve the error:
Check the Wire connections
Carefully inspect the wire connections in your dehumidifier. Ensure that each wire is securely attached. If you find bent pins, this could cause the sensor to malfunction.
Clean the Air filter
Maintaining your dehumidifier is necessary to keep it functioning properly and avoid errors like E9. A dirty air filter can also cause the error code E9; cleaning it will resolve the issue. To do that, follow the steps below:
- Turn off and unplug the dehumidifier.
- Take off the air filter cover.
- Remove the air filter.
- Use a brush to clean the air filter gently.
- Place the air filter cover back in position.
- Reinstall the air filter.
- Plug in the dehumidifier.
Clean the Condenser coils
Condenser coils in a dehumidifier play a vital role in the dehumidification process. Dirty condenser coils may affect the dehumidification process and cause the E9 error code; cleaning the Condenser coils may help you fix the issue. Here are the steps to that:
- Unscrew the two screws at the back to remove the condenser cover.
- Unscrew the four screws in the middle and then remove the coil.
- Clean the coil using a brush and a mixture of water and vinegar.
- Dry the coil with a cloth.
- Put the coil back in place and secure it with the screws at the back.
- Reattach the condenser cover and tighten the two screws in the back.

Check the Resistance
To verify the resistance of the dehumidifier’s wires, you will need a multimeter. Locate the terminals labelled ODT on the user interface. Disconnect the wires from these terminals and use the multimeter to check the resistance from the terminal. Low resistance indicates a short circuit, while high resistance suggests an open circuit. The sensor’s temperature also affects its resistance. For instance, at 0°F, the resistance in kilo ohms should read 85.6 on the multimeter. Any significant difference points to the need for a sensor replacement.

Replace the Humidity sensor
If you find the humidity sensor faulty, you must replace it. To replace it, follow the steps below:
- Begin by unplugging the power cord of the dehumidifier and removing the water collection bucket.
- Next, remove the air filter from the bottom of the dehumidifier and clean it if necessary.
- Detach the front grille by removing the two bottom screws.
- Remove the back panel by freeing the two screws attached to it.
- Take off the outer case of the dehumidifier by removing the bottom screws.
- Carefully disconnect the wires to remove the humidity sensor from the front of the evaporator fins.
- Insert the new sensor into the front of the evaporator fins and place the evaporator thermistor in the copper sleeve. Connect the wires for the new sensor to the control board.
- Reassemble all the parts of the outer case and the collection bucket, securing them with the respective screws.
- Finally, plug in the machine and power it on.
