Glass bottles in Minecraft

Glass bottles in Minecraft can hold several items like water, potions, honey and even dragon’s breath. You can fill them up with water by using them over a water body, waterlogged block or even a cauldron filled with water.

When it comes to potions, glass bottles can empty one-third of a potion-filled cauldron. Drinking a potion or honey bottle returns an empty bottle. However, if you’re throwing a splash potion, the bottle is as good as gone. On the other hand, brewing a lingering potion gives back a glass bottle.

Crafting them is relatively easy as well. All you need is three glass blocks. You can get them from glass structures using any tool enchanted with Silk Touch. Alternatively, you can smelt glass by smelting sand or red sand in a furnace. Journeyman level librarian villagers also have a 50% chance to sell four glass blocks for one emerald.

Once you have enough glass blocks ready, you can start crafting glass bottles. Keep in mind that they require 3 x 3 crafting grids, meaning you need to have a crafting table at the ready.

Step 1: Walk up to your crafting table and right-click to interact.

If you’d rather not craft your bottles, witches have a chance of dropping anywhere from zero to six glass bottles on death. This can be increased by three per level of Looting for a maximum of 15 glass bottles.

Empty glass bottles are stackable, meaning you can store up to 64 glass bottles in a single inventory slot.
