Be it for an Instagram post or story, a project or a poster, or for a YouTube thumbnail to name some of the many uses that a frame awakens in Canva, it can be a simple and effective way to stand apart from the crowd. A frame over any photo on Canva can turn a simple photo into a creative piece.

Finding frames in Canva
Regardless of whether you are a Canva Pro user or not, you can add a variety of custom shapes of frames with an alterable size. To select a frame from Canva’s abundant types of frames, head to Elements in the side panel and type the word ‘frames’ in the search bar. From the first row of results related to frames, click on the ‘see all’ option in front of the main Frames option and this will present you with Canva’s complete and diverse range of frames for your perusal.

Types of frames
Canva provides a vast selection of frames in all shapes, sizes, and designs. They are also available in the shape of letters and numbers. All you have to do is keep scrolling down in the frames option to view more options in different shapes and designs. You can create a collage or mockup of frames using different shapes on new pages to choose the best frame according to your theme.
Using frames
The art of choosing a frame to complement a photo can be tricky. With Canva, you can use stock images present in Canva’s library, not all of which would be available without the watermark if you are not a Canva Pro member, or you can upload a new photo or video on Canva. A new photo or video can be uploaded using the Uploads option in the extreme left-side panel. This option lets you upload files from your computer, mobile, Google Drive, Instagram, Dropbox, and Google Photos.
After this, all you have to do is drag and drop the image over the desired frame. The image will automatically fit into the frame’s shape. Furthermore, you can use the Apps option in the left side panel to directly use content from various Canva apps.
There are other ways that you can make slight adjustments to the image over which the frame is shaped, they are as follows:
- You can double-click on any photo to adjust its size or reposition it according to the frame.
- Instead of a photo or a video, you can also fill the frame with colour by simply clicking on the multi-shaded square in the toolbar given above.
- Some frames allow you to change their border colours as well.
Therefore, you can customise frames on Canva according to your choice and build new ones as well as use the existing ones to arrange and create collages to depict any theme.
