How to shut down a Chromebook?

If you have just bought yourself a new Chromebook or are thinking about getting one, you might be curious about basic operations, such as shutting it down. Unlike traditional Windows or Mac computers, Chromebooks have a slightly different shutdown process.

Shut down your Chromebook using the Quick settings

Before you shut down your Chromebook, it’s essential to save any unsaved work. Just like any other computer, you don’t want to lose your progress on documents, web pages, or any other open applications. To shut down using the quick settings follow the step below.

Step: Click on the Time at the bottom right corner of the screen. In the quick settings menu, click on the Shutdown icon available beside the Sign out button.


Shut down your Chromebook using the Power button

If you wish to use a more direct method to shut down your Chromebook then you can Shut it down directly from the Power button. To shutdown your Chromebook using the power button follow the steps below.

Step 1: Locate the Power button in some Chromebooks It’s located on the right side of your Chromebook and in some it is the key on the top right corner of the keyboard.

Step 2: Press and hold the Power button for about three seconds and your Chromebook will shut down.

Another way to shutdown using the power button

There is another way to shutdown your Chromebook using the power button and below we have explained the steps.

Step 1: Press and hold the Power button until you see a menu with the options; power off, sign out and lock.

Step 2: In that menu click on the Shut down or Power off option.

Shutdown your Chromebook from the login screen

You can also shut down your Chromebook from the login screen. To do that follow the steps below.

Step 1: Click on the Time at the bottom right corner of the screen. In the quick settings menu, click on the Sign Out button available at the top menu.

Step 2: On the login screen, the Shut Down button is available at the bottom left corner of the screen, click on it.

Step 3: It will ask to confirm your action, click on the Shut down button.
