It would be best if you started by first checking OpenAI’s website. On the website, they have listed a day-to-day incident history of the servers.
Here, you will get a real-time analysis of the servers. The red line shows a significant outage with the servers.

Check with a third-party website
Various third-party websites can be used to gauge the status of ChatGPT. Downdetector is one such website. On this website, you will also see an outage map. With the outage map, you can get an idea of the geographical locations of the outages.
We checked Downdetector and found that currently, the website is running alright albeit with a few minor reports of disruptions.
Keep an eye on OpenAI’s social media
Usually, companies update on social media about any serious issues on their servers. It would be wise to check OpenAI’s Twitter handle occasionally.

Check ChatGPT availability in your country
This service is not available in countries like Russia, China, and Iran, among others. So, if you currently reside in any of these countries, you won’t be able to access ChatGPT.
Troubleshoot issues on your end
Sometimes, the issues can be on your side too. Here are some quick ways to check your internet connection:
- Check the wires of the router and modem. Confirm that the cables are plugged into the right ports and are not damaged.
- You can check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) in case of any internet outages.
- Power cycle your router and modem to fix any internet issues. Disconnect the router and modem from the main socket and replug them after waiting a few minutes.
- Update the firmware.
