A keyboard is a surprisingly standard way to interact with computers considering just how many different languages and typing styles every computer supports. However, with computers spread worldwide, they also have to adapt to typing practices in that particular region which can sometimes mean typing backwards.
However, if you’re stuck with a keyboard typing in a layout you didn’t choose, the whole thing can get really annoying really fast. In this article, we’re looking at what you can do if your keyboard is typing backwards.
Restart your computer
The first thing you should do in such situations is to restart your computer. Restarting can fix several different, seemingly random issues that appear out of nowhere, including any problems with typing layouts and regions.

Run the keyboard troubleshooter
Windows has several different troubleshooters that can automatically detect and fix problems.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + I to open Windows Settings. In the System tab, scroll down and click on Troubleshoot.
Step 2: Click Other troubleshooters.
Step 3: Scroll down to Keyboard and click Run.
Let the troubleshooter do its thing, and your keyboard should be running correctly again in no time.
Change your region
Different region settings in Windows have different keyboard layouts. If you’ve got a different region set than what you’re normally used to, such problems can happen.
Step 1: Press the Windows key + I to open Windows Settings. Head over to Time & language.
Step 2: Click Language & region.
Step 3: Under Region, select the region you live in and restart your computer.
Once the restart is complete, your keyboard should return to normal.

Update keyboard drivers
Another possible cause of the error could be problematic keyboard drivers. Try updating them to see if that fixes the error.
Step 1: Right-click Start and select Device Manager from the menu.
Step 2: Locate the keyboard driver you want to update, right-click on it and click on Update Drivers.
Step 3: Click on Search automatically for drivers. Windows will automatically look for and download the latest drivers for your hardware.
While this should help resolve the error, in case it doesn’t, click Uninstall device and restart your PC to force Windows to install the required drivers. You can then update them later.
Use the Windows shortcut
Windows allows switching between typing directions using a quick shortcut. Try pressing Ctrl + Left Shift if you prefer typing from the left or Ctrl + Right Shift if you prefer typing from the right.
