Video-on-demand platforms like Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and many more allow users to download videos easily. You can download an entire season of a show and watch it while commuting, working, or at any time from any place.

If you have multiple apps like these on your device, chances are you will be unable to download too many shows or movies before reaching full storage. In this case, you can use your microSD card instead.

In this article, we will discuss why you cannot download videos from Amazon Prime Video on your SD card and how to fix this issue.

Unable to download on SD card? 3 quick fixes

If you are facing issues while downloading videos from Amazon Prime Video on your microSD card, even after enabling the option on your Android or iOS devices, then you can also follow these fixes:

Clear Storage

When you delete an episode or a movie, it might not be completely removed from your storage. Some cache might remain in your app setting, and some users reported that even after deleting videos, there was no change in their internal storage.

You can try clearing your phone storage by going to settings -> Apps -> Prime Video -> Storage & Cache. However, clearing your storage will delete all of your downloads on that device. Now, try to download new videos on your SD card after enabling the option.

Third-party websites

You can try downloading any Amazon Prime Video movie, documentary, or series on your PC via any third-party website. You can download your videos in high quality and there is no download limit, unlike the Prime Video app. However, you will have to download the application from these websites, log in to this application with your Amazon ID and password and then download unlimited videos. Do this at your own risk as there is always a risk of downloading malware files.

Amazon Support

If you cannot fix the issue with your external SD card and cannot download any video on this card, you can always call for help. Amazon Support has received many complaints where customers can only download content on their SD cards on one device but not on another.

Why use an SD card?

Using your SD card for storing videos from VOD or OTT platforms can help you keep your internal storage clear for other apps. This also helps your device to function adequately. Prime Video allows you to save your downloads on an SD card instead of your internal storage. An external SD card additionally helps as Prime Video allows you to download only 15-25 videos at a time, depending on your region.

However, if you cannot view the SD card download option when you download any video, you can enable this option by the following steps on your Android tablet:

Step 1: Click on your profile icon.

Step 2: Select the Gear (Settings) icon in the top right corner.

Step 3: Then click on Stream & Download.

Step 4: Tap on the toggle switch (it’ll turn orange in light mode and blue in dark mode) beside Download Videos to SD Card, located near the screen’s bottom.
