Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 Under Armour edition: What’s new?

A few days after announcing the Galaxy Watch Active 2, Samsung has launched a special edition of the watch in collaboration with Under Armour, which the company says is ‘designed for dedicated runners’.

The special edition will go on sale the same day as the regular one — September 27 — but will be available at a $30 premium at $309 for the Bluetooth version as no LTE version has been announced.

Samsung Galaxy Active 2 Under Armour edition comes with new features such as real-time form and fitness coaching, and six months of free premium access to MapMyRun; though the subscription may differ depending on the country.

The fitness data is be collected either using the smartwatch or a connected Under Armour footwear. This data is visualised for the users, who also get audio cues during workouts. Post-workouts, users receive in-depth analysis and tips on their smartphone.

The Galaxy Active 2 Under Armour edition is lightweight, comes in an aluminium casing with two exclusive watch faces and two strap options — 44mm with a black strap, and 40mm with a grey strap. Same as the regular Watch Active 2 edition, the Under Armour edition also gets 5ATM + IP68/MIL-STD-810G durability rating.

“The introduction of the Galaxy Watch Active2 Under Armour Edition combined with our UA HOVR connected footwear and unique MapMyRun experience will help runners improve their running form and ultimately their performance,” said Paul Fipps, Chief Digital Officer at Under Armour.

When paired with UA HOVR connected running shoes, real-time feedback is also available on Galaxy Watch, Watch Active and Active 2.

The Samsung Galaxy Active 2 is compatible with devices running Android 5.0 or higher with 1.5GB RAM or more and iPhone 5 and above running iOS 9.0 or above.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be available in the following colours in both the casings: Silver, Black, Gold (with Fluoroelastomer) and an additional leather strap will be available in the stainless steel casing.

The watch’s camera controller function is compatible with Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+, S10e, Fold, Note10, S9, S9+, and Note9 models. My Style watch face only works on Android devices.
